A Jewish human rights organisation has called on Thai Christian leaders to condemn the Nazi-themed parade at the Sacred Heart Preparatory School in Chiang Mai where students were seen dressed up as Adolf Hitler and SS guards doing "seig heil" salutes.
Students dressed as Nazi SS guards with swastika armbands walk in a parade to mark a sports day last Friday at the Sacred Heart Preparatory School in Chiang Mai’s Muang district. The parade drew an angry public response and the school has apologised.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center, an international Jewish human rights group based in Los Angeles, issued a statement on Monday denouncing an event it said was "glorifying Nazis".

Education, and the fact they took the glamor of the parades as a theme is understandable! So lets not have Jewish organizations in New york and honorary Consular members screaming down to Chang mia to tell of their woes to children who's education happens to lack full knowledge! If anything provide educational books and DVDs to the School system for free, Like the Chinese do for teaching their language! Rabbi Abraham Cooper, remember they are not attacking the Jews, but, looking at the visual side of Roman style of the uniforms and parades, which in the early years were glorious. If only the Jewish community could dress so well! Yes! a sad misunderstood display, but, a storm in a teacup!

Hypocrisy rules the world... what is the big deal? seems the kids had fun, put a lot of work into it and maybe next year they wear Israeli Army uniforms.

Quote: (The students also did not realise that using the Nazi theme had any sensitive or negative implications) Good example of the great Thai education system. History in Thai schools mean when the won that battle against the Burmese, that they lost several times is also out of the books.

What were they thinking? Hopefully, they weren't. These students are old enough to have studied world history. If they truly were not aware of the implications of their actions, then there must be serious deficiencies in the education the school is providing.

Many thais are so naive about western countries' stuff. This explains why many thai conservatives are satisfied with the current democratic situation in their country and insist not to move ahead to attain a better democracy in the society.

"The students also did not realise that using the Nazi theme had any sensitive or negative implications." Maybe if the Thai teachers actually taught WORLD history, the students would know more - but - they had to have been taught something based on their attire. I blame the teachers and staff. Will there be any punishment? I doubt it.

The most culturally insensitive behavior I have seen in many years. Next year they will go in black-face and sing slave songs? And to think how easily Thais are personally offended by the slightest thing.

Whoever is teaching them history must take responsibility for not doing their job. But then in my experience in Thai schools there is a general lack of interest in teaching standards, which explains why Thailand is in the state it is in.
