The Appeals Court on Tuesday upheld the Criminal Court's verdict acquitting former Revenue Department chief Sirote Sawasdipanich and four former senior department officials of malfeasance for failing to collect 270 million baht in tax in the 1997 Shin Corp share transfer case.
On Aug 15, 2007, public prosecutors charged Mr Sirote and four other former senior department officials with malfeasance and exempting tax in the transfer of 4.5 million shares of Shinawatra Computer and Communication Plc, part of Shin Corp, worth 738 million baht by Khunying Potjaman Na Pombejra, then wife of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, to her stepbrother Bannapot Damapong in 2007, costing the state 270 million baht in lost taxes.
