The cabinet on Tuesday approved an increase in state officials' minimum base salaries at an estimated budget cost of 5.6 billion baht.
The salary rise applies only to those who have been serving in governmental agencies for up to 10 years, not beyond, said Nonthikorn Kanchanachittra, the secretary-general of the Civil Service Commission.
The salary adjustment would proceed over three years, starting this year with retrospective effect to Jan 1.

The fat and fatter. I wonder how much of the increase will go to the "workers" and how much will disappear in the gift envelopes to the spouses of those further up the food chain. My friends wife hands over half of her performance bonus in this way because half of something is better than all of nothing. A few more inquiries into assets vs income in the provinces might rattle a few cages. from iPhone application.

By offering more reasonable wages, people with skill might actually apply to work for the government . . . if industry wants to compete for the better skilled workers, they'll have to raise wages too.

I do understand, that the cabinet has already allocated the appropriate funds or has, at least, cared to look at projected sources, to generate the necessary income. Right?

I assume the "fees" for obtaining degrees -without qualifications- and the price of "entry tickets" to get those coveted jobs will rise accordingly.
