Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra supported the plan to set up a charter drafting assembly (CDA) to amend the 2007 Constitution, Pheu Thai MP for Udon Thani Anand Sriphan said on Wednesday.
Mr Anand and 11 other Pheu Thai MPs visited Thaksin in Dubai over the weekend.
He said the ex-premier suggested that of the total 99 members of the charter drafting panel, 77 should be directly elected by people in the 77 provinces. After that the 77 members could select an additional 22 members from experts in various fields, including political science, economics and law.
