The government must clearly explain its intentions in moving to amend the constitution, Democrat Party leader and former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Monday.
"If the Pheu Thai Party wants to submit a draft constitutional amendment to Parliament President Somsak Kiatsuranont this week, a joint session of parliament must be held as required by law," the opposition leader said.

Was the current constitution (supported by the Dems) allowed any opposition scrutiny whatsoever? no.. What a piece of hypocrisy by AV. But to give him credit, he is well practiced in this art.

Disc 7 bikeme, "AV is absolutely correct to ask the PTP to state their true intentions. They were elected by the people (albiet not all the people) and are responsible to the people and the people of Thailand deserve to know what changes they plan" Similar to how the present constution was drafted? I don't think so! You can't have it both ways, or can you?

D2 Bula - the PTP have repeatedly said one thing then reversed their statement again and again, so of course it is difficult to believe any of their stated intentions. D4 Bula again - truly you must be dreaming if you think the people elected to the CDA from PTP controlled provinces are not going to suggest exactly what the party wants them to. AV is absolutely correct to ask the PTP to state their true intentions. They were elected by the people (albiet not all the people) and are responsible to the people and the people of Thailand deserve to know what changes they plan.

What exactly do you mean by your last comment, Mr.Abhisit? Please tell me that you're not weakening and that you think it would begetter for all if that criminal came back? You're playing a dangerous and stupid game for a so called intelligent man. from iPhone application.

The opposition democrat party is just doing their job. "The government has to clearly explain the framework of the amendments,..." Who will benefit from constitutional amendments other then the corrupt politicians ?

I think AV know how to read. The amendment is very clear - amend Section 291 of the charter to allow the establishment of a 99-member Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA). The government will not be involved in the drafting.

The amendments are very clear . Change a countries charter so a criminal will be cleared of the charges against him thinly hidden behind the fact that others who also broke the law will benefit . This will be the all time low right along with the government using taxpayers money to bail out criminals .

The DEM continue to dwell on the matter that the Government had repeatedly said publicly that it will not touch. It is an effort to create suspicion and distrust. Repeated action such as this is malicious and defamatory.

The government should not amend the charter at this time as there is a lot of mistrust in the society and doing so would also raise tension in the country," said the opposition leader. -good point.
