The Democrat Party on Monday lashed out at the government for hosting a party on Friday to thank staff of the Flood Relief Operations Command (Froc) while more than 100,000 flood-hit people have still not received the 5,000 baht assistance promised and many localities are still under water.
Party spokesman Chavanont Intarakomalyasut said the planned party showed that the government was satisfied with the Froc's performance despite the loss of 815 lives and 1.4 trillion baht in damage to the country's economy caused by the floods.
The party was tantamount to an affirmation that there were no shortcomings in the Froc's operations, even though there were clear irregularities in the distribution of relief supplies and interference by government MPs in the work of state officials, Mr Chavanont said.

johnb, how could the government back then implement safeguards against future flooding when many of the same people in this current government were too busy inciting riots, creating mayhem and making good on threats at the government in 2010. Unlike the red leaders and their followers who could care less about solutions and created more problems, the current opposition is doing its job by merely pointing out an important reality; you want to party, while people are still in water and many have received nothing for their homes being destroyed. P.T. owes it to all people for its failure during the crisis...not a party to celebrate its total mismanagement of the flood crisis. If anyone deserves a party and thank you it is the volunteers and military who worked endlessly during the crisis, not FROC.

Let us not forget the major flooding in 2010. And what did the Dems put in place to deal with future flooding?

I again repeat - The DEM choose not to see the spirit behind the 'thank you' party. The DEM is trying to incite discontent for what they could not achieve. Many posters choose to distort what I meant by the spirit behind the 'thank you' party. The matter on who is at fault has already been broke to the court and I leave it to the court to decide. At the mean time it is good to say 'thank you.' If there is no such party, I am sure the DEM will come out to incite discontent among those who work tirelessly during the national flood crisis.

The only people who deserve a party or any recognition are the staff of TV channel 3. They made several visits to the Bangkruay area during the flood, unlike the government of Nonthaburi who did nothing to help. The canals in Bangkruay are still filled with all sorts of waste as are the vacant lots. Expect that to remain until the next flood when it floats away on it own.

If the cost if this per head is significant then it could well upset those who received a paltry amount of relief

Thank you party, for what? Nothing but misinformation and horrid decisions. Hasn't this government have anything better to do with money and time? Nice to see Bula (Disc 1) finally writing some sarcasm. Certainly nobody could take this serious and not feel it's a waste of money and a slap in the face to the many who suffered.

I think we all can see the "spirit behind the thank you party." It is to reward PT and Red friends and supporters, even though they screwed up terribly and as a consequence many common people lost everything and are suffering - still. A thank you party in this situation is more than childish. It is selfish and callous.

This is Thailand people!!! It is a tradition in Thailand to hold a party to give recognition to people whenever something is drawing to a close. if you want to criticize, criticize all of the schools that have a party to honor all of the teachers who haven't help education one iota at the close of every term. disc 1,and 3, totally agree, always criticizing and never helping. disc 5, 100,000 out of 60,000,000+ will ALWAYS be critical of everything

It is ok to make a Thank You party for the many people that participated in the flood relief , there will always be some that disagree and that is the beauty of a democracy , but it should not spoil the party mood though ;-)
