Chalerm, Sukhumpol: No coup

Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat on Friday rejected the claims of red-shirt co-leader Jatuporn Prompan that the military is planning another takeover, insisting that there will not be another coup.

ACM Sukumpol said he would ensure the public is informed if there is any report of a possible military coup.

"There is no problem among the soldiers, and they do not have problem with the coup remarks made by Mr Jatuporn," he said.

Asked whether Mr Jatuporn's comments could affect national security and lead to mass street protests by the red-shirts, the minister said the media should not give importance to this issue.

He urged reporters to stop asking questions about a possible coup.

There were thousands of red shirt toughies who helped the reds stay on the street. Which was in a way responsible for making this government come to power. Remember the toughies attached Abhisits campaigning for the elections too. Now that the government has got into power, it just cannot leave these toughies by the wayside. These toughies will once again get paid big money ONLY when there is chaos and only when they need to show their might against the military and police who do not toe their line. Someone needs to take up the cause of these toughies, Jatuporn is taking the lead. Give him a break, he at least does not forget his friends who rampaged government houses and even the Chula Hospital during those days that Bangkok was raped, molested, bullied and terrorized.

One thing that comes to mind between Jatuporns claim and Chalerm's reaction - just turn back the clock and think about Seh Daeng's and Jaturporn's conflict. Seh Daeng was silenced, not even the reds, the government or the DSI cares to talk about the circumstances in which he was shot by the roadside. Someone does not like major dissent among his boys, and who can that someone be?

I like to ask the media not to report about any possible coups anymore. If you see tanks in the streets start reporting but it’s boring to read about this rumour and that gossip and he said that she said….. And then all the denials by everybody that there will be no coup.
It’s very easy: the military will never ever admit planning a coup even if they did exactly that 5 minutes before the interview. It’s not that difficult to understand this.

If mr. Jatuporn was to quit preaching about alleged coups then there would be no need for the red shirts anymore, and they would have to disband and go home. This would put the MP without a following, and he will never let that happen, no matter what the truth is.

Was any official in the previous government forewarned about the 2006 Coup? No they were not. To think the military would inform the govt of a pending coup, defeats the whole purpose of the Coup D' Etat which is a surprise takeover.
