Panel seeks nod for mega-project plans

A joint public and private committee plans to seek cabinet approval for mega-projects worth more than 600 billion baht to develop the Northeast during the mobile cabinet meeting today.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong yesterday said a meeting of the joint panel, chaired by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, has agreed with the proposed projects for the region.

The projects include, among others, a high-speed train link costing 140-150 billion baht, a new railway line between Khon Kaen and Roi Et estimated to cost 33 billion baht, a 60 billion baht highway development plan along the Mekong River from Nong Khai to Bung Kan, some 200 billion baht to develop water sources in the Mekong, Chi and Moon rivers and a controversial project to build a cable-car in Phu Kradung National Park in Loei province.
