Yingluck: No need to team up with Democrats

The Pheu Thai Party has enough seats and there is no need to join forces with the Democrats to form a national government, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Wednesday.

She was responding to Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban's claim that her brother, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, sent three people to speak to him and offered the opposition party a position in a national government in exchange for not opposing the charter amendment bill and reconciliation bills.

"Pheu Thai already has more than half the seats in parliament and there are also coalition partners," Ms Yingluck said. "The government is focusing on ways to address economic issues."

You've all got the wrong idea, the poll asked 'do you think he's playing political games' this does not imply 'do you think he's lying'. It could be that, yes there were talks behind the scenes and yes Suithep was receptive to them and yes he is now playing games by revealing as much. It's more a vote of mistrust in politicians. Polls are polls, read anything you want in to them, twist the question around, fiddle with the sample. Personally I think a govt of national unity might be a good idea towards seeking reconciliation, but it's never going to work in Thailand. You need an opposition to help us all see how dodgy the whole lot of elected representatives are.

"29.03 per cent did not believe it was true, and 23.01 per cent believed in it."

The 23.01 per cent just can't accept the reality, including the 2011 general election result until now.

Can we redo the poll just by changing the name from Suthep to Thaksin? I'd love to know the answers, especially for "Do you think he is playing a political game?"

Yingluck should ask her sister. Maybe she knows something.

Discussion11. What is so difficult for people about understanding polls. 29.03% believed it was not true. That means 70.97% give Suthep enough credibility to think he may be telling the truth. Let's see if Thaksin can match those numbers.

The pollsters surveyed 1,398 people in Bangkok and "nearby provinces" between June 18 and 20.

Folks - We are taught there are lies, really big lies and then comes poll results and statistics. Which provinces did you survey exactly.

It could be easily spun to read that over 70% believed him or at least were not sure one way or the other while somewhat less than 30% stated they did not completely believe Sutheps version.

Take all this polling with a grain of salt. Its good for us to argue over but means zip.

koolbreez (#9) - Rather than jump to conclusions about what that 84% might think of the present Thai government, you might a] consider who anywhere would willingly choose to have ANY government without an opposition & b] just what the other 16% must be thinking.

They all have credibility issues. Playing political games, wow, a large number believe it is true, and it's not just the dems. PT and Thaksin have been playing the numerous games for a number of years and with deadly consequences. Asked about believing what Suthep said, the numbers for and against are rather low (23%-29%), with the majority having no idea (49%). For Yingluck to come out of the blue and say they have been working on economic issues has yet again placed her credibility to nil. Personally, I give the upper hand to Suthep. Yingluck is clueless and Thaksin has no credibility. "Thaksin once told his red-shirt supporters that he would return to the country if gunshots were fired at them." He is so credible as he sits in his ivory towers pulling the strings.

Democrat spokesman Chanvanond Intarakomalsut said people know Mr Suthep is more credible than Thaksin, because Thaksin had lied several times in the past.

According to this poll only 23% believe Suthep is more credible.
