Pokin backs charter changes by section

Former parliament president Pokin Polakul backs an amendment to Section 309 of the constitution, which insulates the 2006 coup makers from prosecution and legitimises their actions.

The Democrat Party believes changing the section could also help former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was investigated by a coup-appointed committee for corruption.

Mr Pokin, however, does not believe Thaksin would benefit, and said the change would be good for democracy.

Some sound reasoning from more dovish Peua Thai MPs. There's a long way to go in this argument, seeing as one side is absolutely hell bent on a specific result. Interesting point that more than half the registered electorate would need to agree in a referendum, that would mean selling the idea to about 60% since a portion of voters never show up at the poll. It would be a massive reversal on the present polling trend. All depends on the question too.
