Singing PM was 'off key'

The Pheu Thai Party's spokesman on Thursday defended Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra for attending a banquet at a Bangkok hotel where she was seen singing on stage just a few hours after the Tuesday’s car bomb in Pattani, saying the Democrat Party niggled her too much.

Prompong Nopparit denied allegations by the opposition that Ms Yingluck appeared to be in a party mood during her presence at the banquet and ignored the bomb incident.

He said the opposition only wanted to politicise the issue by linking the two incidents and discrediting the premier, which was not fair.

dickemery #27 - No. I was saying the Prachathipat MPs in the South had not done anything (except talking/accusing/spinning/twisting/distorting) constructive to support the people and the military in their fight against law breakers (drug traders, separatist movement, counterfeit goods traders). It's time to change their representatives in Parliament. Not necessarily that they come from PTP. They are other parties in the South.

The Southern conflict is a separatist movement and is disturbing but it will only served these separatist agenda if it start to consume our normal lives. This is what the separatists want and will feed into their ego and actions. In reality, this is not yet a national problem but a localized issue just like in Phillipines. The government need to be calm and collected and carry out their work professionally which is the demeanor of Yingluck and no cause for petty complaints.

This is too ironic... This... coming from a party whose leader took a vacation in the Maldives while Thailand was under water last year. Not to mention that by the time the PT party took office in August, the dams in the North had more than double the amount of water compared to the previous 3 years when the Democrats knew they were going to stay in power... Too ironic...

All commentators please be reminded that do not waste your precious time writing your comments on this topic. The reason is simple. Do you think Thailand has a real PM right now? She is just a proxy and knows nothing about everything!

Disc. #6 ---"The red shirts rewrite history as much as Winston Smith did in "1984"" -----Huh? Sort of a bald statement with nothing to substantiate it. At least when Red Shirts call the Democrat Party, PAD to task for re-writing history, they make a case. Such as the pro-coupists characterizing Abhisit's televised offer during the R'song demonstrations as being an agreement. An offer is not an agreement. In a negotiation type circumstance, offers are routinely parried, with alternatives or modifications offered in response as was the case this time. To suggest otherwise is re-writing history......Just an example to substantiate a claim.

In politics, appearances count for a lot. You have to be seen to be honest, fair, hardworking and caring. Being seen smiling and singing at a banquet shortly after a serious bombing incident is something most elected leaders with even a small degree of common sense would avoid. It sends the wrong message. The criticism she is getting for this is deserved. She should be smarter than this.

As a contrast, President Obama cancelled all election campaigning and addressed the nation shortly after the horrible killings in Aurora, Colorado. It may not have changed the outcome but it at least addressed the humanitarian side.
