Politicians corrupt Women's Fund

Politicians have pushed their wives and relatives for the management of the government’s multi-billion-baht Thai Women's Empowerment Fund (TWEF), says Ladawan Wongsriwong, chairwoman of the Women's Voices Club.

Mrs Ladawan said the elections of district and provincial fund committee members had been held and the TWEF was now selecting candidates for 10-member committees to administer budgets in their own provinces.Critics have alleged a lack of transparency and nepotism in the election of the fund representatives. Under the 7.7-billion-baht fund, one of the Pheu Thai Party's election campaign promises, each province will receive 100 million baht to spend on women's development.Mrs Ladawan, a former executive of the disbanded Thai Rak Thai party, said she had received complaints from women leaders in some Northeastern provinces that politicians had heavily influenced the nomination and selection process from villages to provincial levels. The politicians wanted to have their proxies elected as fund management members.Worse...

waters- "I would have ear marked that 7.7 billion baht fund to hunt down the tens of thousands of Thai men who fathered children, then ran away, and have never paid a satong in child support. "

Perhaps the truest statement on this thread.

The sad thing about this is that the corruption is taking place against the very people UDD/PTP swears to protect.

And redview, other commenters are correct, there is plenty of openness and fairness in posting comments on this board. I'm sure that others against PTP, as myself, have had many comments not posted as well. There was another comment about most of those against PTP/UDD being against PAD also. That was spot on. Most of us are against corruption and the destruction of Thailand and actually love Thailand.

Asking any Thai to do something morally and ethically correct over making money for themselves is an impossibility in modern day Thailand. Raping any and all financial budgets is the only way these wannabe Hi-So's can maintain their status quo. The majority of all that budget money will disappear into the greedy pockets of those Thai's that would endanger the entire country for the benefit of themselves. A sickening cancer formed in government, nurtured by government and allowed to grow outside the boundaries of any law. Thai people have the worst greed for themselves out of any country in the civilized world. Sick to see, sick to see the govt is the main cause of all evil in Thailand

Renaissance #36 - I am interested on the source of your information that Thaksin doesn't implement any projects unless the proverbial 30% commission can be extracted from it.

@redview#35: Many people here and elsewhere who disapprove of the corrupt and authoritarian Shinawatra dynasty are not fans or supporters of the PAD. Furthermore, I know many Thais and foreigners who genuinely want a better deal for the rural poor, but do not the support the Red Shirts. The Red Shirts do not have a monopoly on a desire for social justice. Just on being tools of the Shinawatra clique.

If the Bangkok Post allows you, Bula, ricefield, etc., to post here, then it's not a propaganda outlet. If the comments are 5 to 1 against you, then that, within the narrow confines of this webboard, is the voice of the majority. It seems Red Shirts only want democracy when they win.

Redview, we respect your view points. True, most posters deplore this proxy led government. Why?
A Defence Minister who cares more about his 'face' than he cares about his soldiers using a bogus bomb detector. A rice mortgage scheme that costs taxpayers billion of baht. A PT dominated parliament that keeps pushing for a fugitive's amnesty. A 7.7 billion baht Thai Women's Empowerment Fund that's become politicians wives' piggy banks. Committees that spring up weekly and headed by a known 'unusually rich' ex-police general. And a Prime Minister who coincidently always seems to be away feeding elephants or making photo ops every time the political tension increases in Bangkok, and when asked a direct question is unable to give a direct answer. I could go on and on, but I think you understand.

Redview # 35: It is admirable to be positive, but Thaksin doesn't implement any projects unless the proverbial 30% commission can be extracted from it. He doesn't work for nothing and he has a lot of people to thank and to keep happy. He needs to have his people to run the projects in every province so that they can take care of how the money is spent, and especially to whom it is given. When he came up with the project, I doubt if he suddenly experienced a burst of altruism and feel that he should take care of women. It's the same with his other projects, such as the rice mortgage scheme. The corruption there isn't accidental. He has to thank people for their support, buy support for the future, and his projects serve this purpose in the guise of helping the poor. This is how politics operates in Thailand.

So, Redview too positive about this program for you huh! BKK Post needs to be negative about PTP and it's programs. The negative ratio of comments in this thread are 5 - 1 , and you want to keep it that way. To most impartial observers that makes you a propaganda outlet. You should be damn pleased to get articulate alternatives from me, to balance things out, but it doesn't fit your agenda. Having PADites judge what is posted and what is not, is not good. But you expose yourself.
