PM: Thaksin worked for the country

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Tuesday that she believed her brother, former premier Thaksin, had worked hard and in the best interests of the country when he was in office.

She was responding to  the report of the Truth for Reconciliation Committee (TRC) yesterday, which concluded that the fugitive former prime minister should quit politics - to help bring about national reconciliation and in the best interests of the country.

The prime minister said after the TRC has submitted its report to her on the April-May 2010 violence and  crackdown she will forward it to the Committee to Coordinate and Follow Up on Actions Taken to Implement the Recommendations of the Truth for Reconciliation Commission of Thailand for consideration and further action.

Disc 41: I appreciate your response, but you don't give any reason for me to believe former PM Thaksin is a criminal. I'm basing my post on information I received while traveling in The Kingdom Of Thailand. Country folks I met in Thailand, had nothing but high praise for the former PM. After reading several articles on former PM Thaksin's removal from office and discussing the subject with those who understand the legal aspects of this case, I'm convinced, former PM Thaksin was removed from office under un-democratic like circumstances. My opinion is based on a democracy viewpoint where everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty. Removing someone from political office by military means isn't democracy.

pointless1 Dis#39 ,I do know, country folks love former PM Thaksin.

    "Former" huh ?
Besides sounding like you have a mancrush on a square headed convicted criminal fugitive , don`t you know anything at all , forgive them though , for they obviously know not for what they are actually talking about ?
This is precisely the reason "vote 1 luck , for a lousy 20 bucks"(or 500 bht), got given the Thai purse to hold wide open on his behalf and at the end of the day , rorting them same loving country folks you seem to be speaking for ?

In my opinion, former PM Thaksin isn't a criminal. The fact is, former PM Thaksin became a victim of circumstances, far beyond his control. Furthermore, former PM Thaksin should be rewarded for helping the poor. I viewed former PM Thaksin as a strong leader who got positive things done. I do know, country folks love former PM Thaksin.

Yup, YS is right, Thaksin worked hard for the country in order to pad his own pockets. If he was so innocent, none of the corruption cases would have crept on his back.

"the real problem which is how one class of people have always dictated the rule of law and governance of the country." The very same class that Thaksin belongs to.
