PM: Thaksin worked for the country

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Tuesday that she believed her brother, former premier Thaksin, had worked hard and in the best interests of the country when he was in office.

She was responding to  the report of the Truth for Reconciliation Committee (TRC) yesterday, which concluded that the fugitive former prime minister should quit politics - to help bring about national reconciliation and in the best interests of the country.

The prime minister said after the TRC has submitted its report to her on the April-May 2010 violence and  crackdown she will forward it to the Committee to Coordinate and Follow Up on Actions Taken to Implement the Recommendations of the Truth for Reconciliation Commission of Thailand for consideration and further action.

Has she been sharing eardrops with chalerm ?
Though it is good to see her finally not duck this question regarding her convicted criminal fugitive Bro`master like she usually does , will he hold Thailand to ransom this New Year too yingluck for the benefit of the Kingdom ?
Time for a change in Thailand !

Khun Whatajoke #30, it is really beyond a stretch to compare TS with Lee Kuan Yew. As I unstained it, Lee's father remained a shoemaker through out his life. That's the degree of Lee's impeccable degree of honesty and character, which rivals that of George Washington. Now, can you tell me how the country benefits from TS' disastrous Deep Southern policy, or murderous War on Drugs, and etc?

I'm going to buck the trend of comment here and agree partly with poor, naive Yingluck. Thaksin did work hard, he mostly did it for the benefit of a country that he hoped would then re-elect him, he did it so that he could justify rewarding himself with a 'little privilege here and there', he did so that he could leave a legacy similar to Dr M. or Lee Kwam Yew, befitting the ego of such an ambitious person. He did a lot of good, benefiting a lot of people, but... (and I'll leave this for historians and BP posters to fill in, as they have done amply already).

I say TS has always worked for himself, but his vast business empire happens to include the Govt of Thailand, then and now. If he truly worked for the country, he would either answer every questions directed at him concerning his alleged massive corruption schemes against him and his administration or resign. Instead, he ran away from all reporters' cameras & microphone all the way to Europe and USA, when he was deposed by the Military. Now, I see TS as chairman of the board and YS as his CEO.

What about Prem quitting politics and abdicating his post as privy councillor and head of ammat ?

Would that be like the last time the fugitive was going to quit politics?
Since then he has been the catalyst and figurehead for the red shirt mobs, created division not reconciliation and made sure his interests came first.
Quiting politics means nothing in a system where patronage, nepotism and control from outside Parliament is already the form of Gov't Thailand has under Thaksin. Why face the questions, why face the scrutiny (as little as it is),why put up with pesky reporters and journalists when you can rule Thailand from Dubai?

Hahahaha, thanks for the laugh Yingluck! You made my day better. Nice to see the PM retains her sense of humor.

Besides telling Thaksin to quit politics the TRC report also urged the military and its leaders to “strictly refrain” from involvement in politics. Can't see either happening anytime soon.

TRC report has skipped the conclusion that AV and Suthep to quit politics will also help to bring about national reconciliation and in the best interests of the country.
