Chalerm fumes at budget cut for riot control police

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung has demanded the Budget Bureau explain its decision to slash the Royal Thai Police's (RTP) crowd control budget.

Chalerm: Wants better gear to calm crowds

The RTP had sought a 440.1 million baht budget for riot control and allowances for 55 companies of crowd control police.

I have to agree with Chalerm on this one. With the protest control fiascos over the past 8 years, more money should be spent on improving crowd control measures.

ha ha, there's so many tongue in cheek thoughts that come to mind...
    a) Is Chalerm expecting riots when he brings Thaksin home
    b) Why waste the money when the Police are so good at letting riots and protests go ahead
    c) Is it because they need them to get the job done properly now that they are interesting in doing their job all of a sudden
    d) Or perhaps there was no transparency in the way it would be spent (like the Army)

So now it`s the men in brown and not the men in black pushing taxsins selfserving agenda , even wanting to load up on riot gear to use against who , innocent Thais , i thought they were against that ?
The shoe must be on the other foot now , where is the Thai peoples missing millions yingluck ?

taxsin/yingluck/ptp must be either getting paranoid as more people start to hear about and object to all the missing taxpayer baht being squandered under his/her/their red`iculous tainted unfinished projects and unsustainable populist policies , or they are just going to push through taxsins "return me a free man policy" regardless of what law abiding Thai citizens or the courts think ?
They know quite well that would be totally inexcusable , unacceptable and will further divide the Kingdom , but don`t expect the clone of red lies and corruption to stop him , as she obviously feels that all he did was for Thailands benefit !
I guess that`s what they call working hard "for the Kingdom" , he thinks he owns it , not only is the man a lying thief , he is deluded ?

Interesting to see that he feels "the political situation was intensifying and there was a high possibility of political rallies" (while the government is preaching reconsiliation) and that he therefore seems to be willing to prepare for a war against whatever demonstrators - or only against non-reds?

He should spend some time thinking about how to PREVENT the political situation from intensifying. If he can't find the answer (even though it's quite simple), maybe he should invite the Dems for some mental input and exchange of ideas following the good example of Ms Yingluck.

Good to see one department can manage a country.
The Budget Bureau should slash the money available for politicians.
Politician's pay should be based on performance.

    A budget what for?
Isn't crowd control done by the red mob leaders?

  • Discussion 6 : 19 Sep 2012 at 10.216

Of course he's mad. He'll be out tens of millions of baht on this deal. But I'm sure he'll find some other place to take taxpayers money for himself, just like all politicians.

"19 long-range acoustic devices (14.23 million baht)" that looks like a good thing to cut from the budget.

Well perhaps if the PTP weren't pursuing such a selfish course of action, the political situation would not be intensifying. Perhaps if the PTP was working to improve life in Thailand for all, people would be content. Perhaps if they weren't trying to whitewash an individual, people would be content.

But then again, why do they need a crowd control budget. The police do very little when mobs take to the street and seize public space. About all they can do is separate small groups (less than 100).
