Thaksin to visit Singapore for F-1

Fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra plans to visit Singapore this weekend, his legal adviser Noppadon Pattama said on Thursday.

Mr Noppadon said Thaksin, who is currently in Italy, has been invited by Formula One organisers to watch the Singapore race.

He said Thaksin will remain in the island state from Sept 22 to 24.

D29 & D30 I think you are quite naive about how international diplomacy works, govts the world over go along with what other sitting govts request of them, in this case if the govt of Thailand (an important trading partner) is silently lobbying you to grant a visa to its del facto leader, you go along with it and find a justification. If another govt lobbies you to deny a high profile fugitive access you do the same, nothing has changed in Thaksin's status recently, the US and UK neither admit or deny it's a politically motivated case, they couldnt care less, but using this to endorse the line that a credible judicial process in Thailand with plenty of damning evidence was invalid because of the political background is just rubbish. In most balanced courts in the world Thaksin would have been sunk years ago, using the coup and 'political motivation' to argue for his innocence is indefensible.

Discussion 28 whatajoke : "The Singapore govt couldn't care less, Thaksin has money and is to be courted(counted), arrest warrants are nothing to do with them"

Thaksin's wealth is negligible when compared with those of the Singaporian government, also the US government, Japenses government. Germany government.......

D28 almost All the countries see the TS situation for what it is a political percussion driven by politics. There seems to be 1000's of allegations by the DP but no proof. And I they know that TS is not clean, but they also know that the opposition is not either.I beg you to go back and read your history and that off the yellow shades and look at it from all angles. Even when the Abhisit government was telling the country that interpol had world wide warrants out for TS we now see that it was a "white lie"

LOL, before I even read this comment I just knew there would be something to the effect of 'See, more proof no one in the world sees Thaksin as criminal because it's all politically motivated charges' says Noppadom Pattama.
This side kick is like a robot, he spends his whole life securing invitations to Thaksin from prestigious events. The Singapore govt couldn't care less, Thaksin has money and is to be courted, arrest warrants are nothing to do with them,

Discussion 17 gordlimey : all the government of those countries that Thaksin is allowed to visit came to the conclusion that his conviction is politically motivated and should be ignored.

I suspect that Mr Noppadon was trying to wind up 'the yellow shirts and 50% of Thailand' and the usual suspects on this forum. And you know what? They fell for it. Happy days!

I had a quick look and I can't see any record of Thailand having an extradition treaty with Singapore. Now if someone could lure him across the border into Johor Baru...........
