Pheu Thai wants new truth panel

The Pheu Thai Party wants the government to set up a new fact-finding commission on the political violence and crackdown of 2010, deputy spokesman Jirayu Huangsap said on Saturday.

Mr Jirayu said relatives of the red-shirt protesters killed and injured in the April and May 2010 events were unhappy with the report released last week by the Truth for Reconciliation Committee (TRC).He said Pheu Thai MPs for more than 20 provinces in the North, Northeast and Central plains reported receiving complaints from red-shirts’ relatives that the TRC report was biased. They were unhappy that the report placed heavy emphasis on the actions of the shadowy "men in black" and their links to the red shirts' United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), said Mr Jirayu. The TRC report has won support in other quarters for its conclusion that both the UDD and the Democrat-led government of the day had to accept responsibility for the way events played out.The relatives wanted to send as many as 10,000 representatives to Bangkok to ask the TRC and the National Human Rights Committee to produce facts on the 2010 events, said Mr...

Mister disc 53, your post is really abstruse. I know Voltaire pretty well Voltaire and to mix him with your pompous propaganda is just ridiculous and really out of subject. For the "tolerance", thanks for the laugh, you are "the" specialist. May be can i invite you to read the "essay on tolerance" of... Voltaire.

Discussion 57 brilliant : "At least two Europeans were involved with the TRCT..."

But unforrtunately there are also PAD related members in the TRC. For example committee member Metha Meskow had close ties with Suriyasai Katasila, a former PAD coordinator. Another subcommittee member Chaiwat Treewittaya is even a leader of PAD security guards.

Have you really read the TRC report yet?

Lies and more lies, jib - "The TRCT panel composed solely of PAD members and anti-TS protesters, all directly appointed by AV"

From the Wall St. Journal "Two years in the making, the more than 300-page report provides a detailed factual account of events that is impartial, if imperfect. What's more, the commission drew on extensive international advice and support. This is unusual for a country that is usually averse to foreign involvement in anything political."
At least two Europeans were involved with the TRCT, but jib would never admit that.

johninbkk - "The TRCT panel composed solely of PAD members and anti-TS protesters"

    That is an outright lie.
From the Wall Street Journal - "Two years in the making, the more than 300-page report provides a detailed factual account of events that is impartial, if imperfect. What's more, the commission drew on extensive international advice and support. This is unusual for a country that is usually averse to foreign involvement in anything political." There were either two or three European diplomats heavily involved in the writing of the report. There are many other discussions, but I thought even reds could not argue against the impartiality of the WSJ.

What in fact did the TRC reveal about the MiB. What is their connection with the reds? Who are they? Who funded them? Who was their commander? As far as I can read they haven't shed any new light on anything.

mister disc 50, "false concern and crocodile tears for the dead"... Surely for you and the people of your obedience, not for an human being with a soul. And reading you and your hatred pairs, the word "reconciliation" seems really a joke.

    disc49 Rossaya Re Voltaire...
I'm not sure why you would continue down this path or why you would assume 'aficionados of PAD/dems/pro coup' are less likely to know Voltaire than UDD fans.
    1) It was originally quoted as Voltaire (albeit misspelled).
    2) Its meaning was clear - Peua Thai need to stop bullying and start being diplomatic.
    3) Voltaire enjoyed criticising the government and would have found Peua Thai's dictatorial style abhorrent.
    4) Peua Thai is the puppet of one of the wealthiest and most elite of criminals this country has seen.
    5) One of the most famous quotes ("I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.") wrongly attributed to Voltaire, might instil in you a little tolerance.

"Set up an independent committee with foreign observers and advisors. It is the only way to get anyway." Agree ... but that is not what Pheu Thai is asking for.

  • Discussion 51 : 22 Sep 2012 at 22.3351

The TRCT panel composed solely of PAD members and anti-TS protesters, all directly appointed by AV, while the opposition was banned from participation. One only needs to read the report to see the significant pro-PAD skew/leaning. Which version of the truth would they write?

If one does not learn from history, the actual true history, Thailand will repeat it once again.

The red comments once again show that PTP/UDD has ZERO interest in reconciliation. Their goal is win at all costs and it is painfully obvious. ZERO compromise, no mercy.
There actually were several foreigners on the TRC to begin with and Yingluck said her government would honor and respect the findings. So once again broken promises from PTP/UDD.
But the most hypocritical thing about this whole mess is the false concern and crocodile tears for the dead. If the reds really cared about keeping Thai citizens alive they would be up in arms and screaming for this government to take more action in the South. Did Yingluck even notice six more died yesterday and dozens were wounded?
