Plodprasop: Govt to build dams

The government will go ahead with the building of the Kaeng Sua Ten dam in Phrae and the Mae Wong dam in Nakhon Sawan and will no longer listen to opponents, Science and Technology Minister Plodprasop Surasawadi said on Sunday.

Mr Plodprasop was speaking in Phichit province on the last day of a three-day tour of flood-prone provinces to see the progress of flood prevention projects and latest situation.

He said floods have continued to ravage provinces in various river basins because of the people's opposition to the planned construction of Kaeng Sua Ten dam and Mae Wong dam.

@Disc 7 - I guess they spent some of the 350 billion baht on buying "water pushers". Next year they are trying to get another 300-400 billion more. Before you know it, its at 1 trillion all together with other fail policies. Thailand is the Thaitanic.

"I would like to announce loudly today that this government has a policy to build these two dams for sure. We will no longer yield to the voice of opposition.

Thai people in opposition and possibly the law too , you have now been told ?

Disgusting talk and totally unacceptable from someone elected to serve the thai people and the Kingdoms best interests ?
This person is not fit to serve anyone !
paranoid taxsin cramming all the deals he can in before his ouster once again ?

Dis #2. What we have here is a dictatorial democracy. As the PTP has a controlling majority in Parliament it is impossible for any other party, or parties, to gather enough votes to threaten their priorities. At least with a coalition there is a small degree of give and take that might temper some decisions of this nature but that is impossible under the present regime. As always it is the poor Thai who suffers from statements like this. They have no voice and are so busy just trying to feed and clothe their families they have no time to challenge these arbitrary decisions.

Isn't it pretty obvious by now, that the corporate businesses are running this country and that the "People Party" Puea Thai is their power tool? And that corporate business = PT. Anybody still in doubt? Because if you are, you really have a problem with connecting dots.

What's about forest restoration? If our rain forests up north can be restored to their pristine condition, there won't be any need to destroy any more forests down south, in order to build new dams, to prevent flooding, right? It is many times more cost-effective too, and should be a no brainer!

350,000,000,000 baht in flood management funds already has disappeared. This is a government that cannot even dredge a canal properly and now they want to build dams? What happened to the NO floods in 2012 promise we heard a million times in 2011? This government is hell bent to bankrupt the country with nothing to show for the money spent except more flooding? It is hard to believe Thai people have not risen up and held the government accountable. Oh, I forgot! For most, 5,000 baht payment is probably worth living in sewage and filth in flood waters up to their waist for 3 months at a time.

Blame the people. The Minister of Science and Silly Solutions needs to go back to propellers, water pushers, and plastic sheets.
