Row over new NACC member

The senate has agreed to the nomination of Pol Gen Sathaporn Laothong as a new member of the National Anti-Corruption Commission amid protests over his qualifications.
The senate voted 76-43 for the former police inspector-general to replace Medhi Krongkaew in the anti-graft agency. His name had been forwarded by the independent screening panel.Mr Medhi left the agency in August when he turned 70, the maximum age for a commissioner.The senate will forward the name to His Majesty the King for endorsement.But the next step could be delayed as some senators threatened to seek a Constitution Court ruling on whether the position of inspector-general is equivalent to police chief or director-general, the minimum requirement for candidates from the civil service to be an NACC commissioner.Senator Direk Thuengfang, who chaired the senate committee to check the qualifications, said Pol...
