Yongyuth resigns as party leader

Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat and Pheu Thai MPs Charupong Ruangsuwan and Pol Lt Gen Wiroj Pao-in are being tipped as candidates to succeed Yongyuth Wichaidit, who resigned as party leader yesterday.

The three names emerged after Mr Yongyuth formally announced his resignation as party leader and party list MP.

A highly placed party source said the three stood a chance of being picked because they suited the Shinawatra family's requirement of being people they could control.

All the facts which have caused this were well know to Thaksin before Yongyuth was appointed.

He still appointed him anyway : A big indicator about the ethics and morales of PT.

He's only gone because he got caught. Where is the criminal prosecution or the subsequent investigation and uproar from the government for any others involved ?.

"They believed the resignation could help avoid putting the party at any risk of being dissolved by the Constitution Court."

So, as long as you resign before the Constitutional Court puts the question on their agenda, the facts of the case, that is, a person guilty of an offense committed years prior to becoming a party leader and by accepting the leadership post places the party as risk of being dissolved, become irrelevant. Huuummmm. Classic case of its not whether or not you are guilty of something, but only of whether or not you get caught? And as the party patron was reportedly a clear beneficiary of the offense in question, there is no question that the matter was concealed from the party when he was made a party leader. Very interesting logic that.

That's the only reason for him to resign. Out of fear of the party, not out of shame - that alone is a shame.
