Prem pleads for reconciliation

All Thais, whatever their political affiliation, should seek to reconcile with each other in an amicable way and bear in mind that being a united nation is of high importance, Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda said on Thursday.

The statesman was speaking at army headquarters after presiding over the opening of a training programme for 241 Muslim youths from five southern border provinces.

In his speech, Gen Prem called for all people to do everything possible to unify the kingdom. The programme for youth from the far South was one step towards achieving this goal.

We need those responsible for attacking and killing our security forces in '09-'10 behind bars. We need full compensation for the security forces families. Not just the lousy 5% of what red rioters was given. The red shirts who were compensated for injuries or death AFTER the order to disperse was given should pay the money back,with interests. We need the return of the runaway coward,Thaksin,to face the full wrath of the Courts for all the crimes he committed,including terror-charges. All UDD leaders/co-leaders proven to have incited to unlawful acts,especially arson and violence,must recieve maximum sentences. Then we can talk.

I do not understand someone's criticism and ironic comments here. It is true that the political scenario is fine now, certainly more peaceful and less tense than in the 2008-10 period. I believe that is what P.C. President Prem was referring to.

I am think that love is a feeling, and I think we cannot make someone love or hate someone by telling people to love, otherwise its not real. Nobody can making me love the red shirts, or yellow shirts, I dislike both, but I can forgive. I think word in English is patronise ka

I think Prem is right when he says "Love can bring about everything ... peace, happiness and success” but how can you tell people to love this and love that? If you tell people to try to understand each other then maybe this creates respect and maybe love. But you can’t just decide to love something or someone. But maybe this just got lost in translation.
