Newly appointed PM's Office Minister Varathep Rattanakorn has brushed aside a senator's plan to ask the Constitution Court if he is qualified for the post.
Varathep said yesterday the cabinet secretary-general had already consulted the Council of State, the government's legal adviser, over his qualifications and found he met all requirements set by the constitution.
Varathep was responding to Senator Prasarn Marukpitak, who said the appointment might violate Section 174 of the constitution. The section states that anyone who was released from jail less than five years ago may not be appointed as a minister.
