Sukumpol urges restraint from Pitak Siam

Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat yesterday called on the Pitak Siam group to exercise restraint with its anti-government campaign.

Sukumpol: Makes an appeal for calm.

The comment followed Gen Boonlert Kaewprasit's remark which was considered a call for the military to stage a coup against the Yingluck administration.

    D9:
The Red Shirts were demanding IMMEDIATE elections. Abhisit offered them elections in six months. Six months is a long time in politics, especially Thai politics. The claim that the Red Shirts were trying to overthrow the government is still wrong.

Abhisit offered them general elections during a meeting with UDD leaders(televised live)but after a brief phone call from overseas, all the UDD leaders except Veera Musikhapong, rejected the offer.
So what facts are you refering to? Red facts?

bikeme(D6): You are wrong. In 2010 the PTP and UDD were NOT calling for the overthrow of the government, but for a general election. Let's keep to the facts!

It is interesting that during Ratchaprasong, the PTP and UDD were full of vhim and vigor calling for the overthrow of the government. But now that they are the government, these sort of speeches by others are considered inappropriate. A bit of double standards perhaps?

"a coup is the only way to topple the government...The most important thing to do first is to bring down the government. The people must help to accomplish this goal." Gen Boonlert, on stage at the Royal Turf Club, Oct 31, 2012

It will be nice if Gen Boonlert outline his plans and what will benefit the country if a coup ever take place. What is it that Gen Boonlert can do better than the present Government.

The coup in 2006 was successful but what happened after that. Nothing much was achieved. And when a general election took place the Phue Thai won with a majority. During the last general election, Phue Thai again won with a majority. Has Gen Boonlert analyze the results and asked himself "Why"

Unless there is a solid plan by Gen Boonlert that will go to the benefits of the Thai people, I wonder how he is going to be successful in his campaign to overth

D1 and D2; it's conjecture at this stage, I don't recall the general getting on the stage and telling everyone to join a coup, there are probably no plans so far to organise a coup, there's not much difference between this renegade expressing that dirty word and someone telling their 5,000 facebook friends that they think it's a good idea. Besides, in this era of unusual politics, you can't possibly pass judgment without first putting this in perspective to the events, actions and speeches at Ratchaprasong in 2010.

"Mr Kharom said both men had made comments aimed at inciting a rebellion and a coup."

PT government has exercised the utmost patience and given the last warning to Boonlert and his associates to back off.
