Seh Ai: No rally if fewer than one million

The next anti-government rally will be called off if the number of people it draws is likely to be fewer than the target of one million, Pitak Siam Group leader Boonlert Kaewprasit said on Sunday.

Gen Boonlert had earlier planned to hold another rally late this month, aiming to attract up to one million protesters to oust the government he says is "plagued with corruption". The first rally on Oct 28 drew about 20,000 participants.

Before the rally is held, he said, the number of people taking part will be closely watched. If it was likely to be fewer than the target of one million, the rally would be called off.

1,000,000 present? I doubt it (maybe something behind that overinflated figure). 20 to 30,000,000 going to bed keeping their fingers crossed in the hope this Thaksin-PTP-UDD madness will be gone forever by the time they wake up tomorrow? That I am sure of! Visibly a lot of bro's wearing red glasses on the net this evening, but no prob', as long as it's part of that freedom of expression, that we, the ones with different ideas, might be missing a lot when the new dynasty comes to power...

He said that if he didn't get 55 000 people at the first rally he will not organize a second rally. He got by most accounts only 20 000, but is still going on with planning a second rally. Not a man of his word that's certain. He's either being paid plenty by the traditional elite to continue, even if it makes him look foolish or someone with an uniform told to back off and now the million is his backdoor. Even in a democracy there's boundaries and he's crossed atleast one.

D4: While the one million is so ridiculous, you wonder if it is a misquote or mistranslation or misunderstanding as often happens with numbers in any news report in Thailand. And as evidence, your own comment: Last time I checked 1 million would be 1:65, not 1:6 of the population of Thailand (still ridiculous, I know).
