Chalerm accuses media of bias (video)

A video clip of Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung arguing with a reporter during a press interview, accusing her of being uninformed and biased, is being circulated in several social media platforms.

He was talking about security details for handling the next Pitak Siam anti-government rally, scheduled to be held on Nov 24 at the Royal Plaza, Bangkok.

When questioned, the deputy prime minister in charge of security affairs blurted out that the media “sympathised” with the opposition Democrat Party, and that this was reflected in their questions and their messages to the public.

This is typical Chalerm playing his intimidation routine; but it works like a charm all the time. In a democratic society, it’s not just the elected officials in parliament and other “watch-dog” agencies that are trying to keep the government honest; the main stream medias, whether pro or anti government, also has an important role in this function. Any government initiatives / plans, given enough merits / substances, should be able to withstand any stringent scrutiny from interested groups.

It's only bias when the accused doesn't support the same point of view as the accuser. Naturally, when the two parties see eye-to-eye, neither of them is at all biased in their point of view.
