Abhisit has 10 days to clear himself

Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat has given Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva 10 days to submit evidence to confirm he had not evaded military conscription and had followed all legal procedures to be registered and appointed an officer in the military service, a source said.

The source said this was stated in an official letter, dated Nov 16, from ACM Sukumpol to Mr Abhisit who last week sent a letter to him asking for justice.

ACM Sukumpol earlier signed an order to remove Mr Abhisit's rank of sub-lieutenant and recall his salary and other benefits for using falsified documents to evade conscription and apply for a teaching job at the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy.

Isn't the burden of proof on the prosecutors? You ask someone to produce a 25 year old document, and because they can't, won't, haven't, you pronounce them as guilty? It's not like he mass murdered 3,000 people in front of the entire world, like someone else we know.

What happened to 'Innocent until proven guilty?' What dirty, disgusting mud slinging. But what to expect from a government lead by a convicted criminal and with Chalerm as deputy PM ?

Born and bred in London in such a privileged family, it was not a surprise for that boy and his family tried their every best not to serve his military duty mandatory for every Thai male, and not to go through the "dirty" and tough military training and exercise. I am sure they hate to serve their military service, and definitely did dodge that and conceal the fact of DD. The very ironic fact is that particular boy had to rely on the military, as his only way and only resource, to be installed the.... So the boy really owes the military too much, and has no way to pay back even serving as a puppet of the army generals.

By every account Thaksin got the land cheap.

Absolutly wrong. The trial judge in delivering his verdict specifically stated that Thaksin's wife had paid a fair price for the land.

The point about the law under which he was convicted was that even if she had paid ten times the value of the land Thaksin would still have been guilty, the law says that he could not giver her permission to buy this land at any price.

Mr Abhisit being given another chance to Co-operate with the investigation committee. I wonder why he failed to co-operate previously, I understand he was given plenty of opportunity. Don't pick on me! I'm not saying he’s after a sympathy vote.

How many people have paper work from 25+ years ago, I for one do not have, I only have a birth certificate. If he did have I would expect they would have faded by now and almost unreadable. Thaksin still has his police rank even after he is officially a convicted criminal, why is this. has this been over looked by the government or are they just out to get one person.

"Appearing on cooking show = worst...crime...ever." Because Samak clearly and defiantly broke the law. He was warned not to, but thought he was special. Samak also was convicted by the Constitutional Court, not by the Minister of Defence.

Watch this space, this is probably going to develop into a big case next year. Basically, Sukumpol interfered with the chain of command in the army to fix a guilty verdict on Abhisit based on a flimsy case of a forged document. Now, 25 years later, Abhisit has to find the document to prove it's real. Meanwhile the generals have been forced to strip the rank of their ally by a civilian minister. They are probably silently seething. This man has overstepped his mark with the army, it was totally unnecessary. He will be impeached and the courts will likely find him guilty and remove him from office, the army are tired of being ordered around.
