50,000 southerners to join rally

At least 50,000 people from 16 southern provinces will join the Pitak Siam anti-government rally in Bangkok on Nov 24 and 25, Group of People from 16 Southern Provinces coordinator Sunthorn Rakrong said on Tuesday.

"The people from the South will take part in the mass rally because the government is a proxy of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and its populist policies are damaging the country.

"The government is also colluding with foreigners to sell Thai fuel cheaply, causing prices of farm products to slump," Mr Sunthorn said.

I bought 2 red shirts at the local market today, does that mean I am going to go and disrupt this PS rally, pathetic though it is? Time for Thai politicians to grow up and start behaving like people living in a democracy do, if that is what they want this country to be..... kindergarten is back down the road a little bit if that's what they are trying to do...

It is not cost-effective as the 6 billion baht "third hand" sponsored fund can only attract 50,000 more people to join the rally.

No surprise to see that most of the people to join the group are southerners, since most of the votes the DEM got were from the south, while people in the rest areas of the country voted the DEM out.

"So, 50,000 people have made a spontaneous decision to join a rally hundreds of kilometres away in Bangkok with no promises of daily payments, transport, food etc. Well done!" Why not? We are expected to believe that of the red shirts every time they gather.

" we cannot arrest the people who bought the red shirts since its not illegal to do so," Lt-Gen Paradorn said.

OK 50K signed up - 950,000 to go. Should I add the 4000 bought red shirts to the count as well?

The ruling party look as if they will do there best to discredit this peaceful rally. We also have an acknowledgement that money is changing hands for allies of the ruling party to cause disruption to further there own ends, what are the police doing about that the answer nothing as yet.

"National Security Council (NSC) secretary-general Paradorn Pattanathabutr confirmed that there was an intelligence report warning that about 4,000 red shirts had been bought by people from the anti-government group"

This seems like an outrageous ploy by the government to provide cover for marauding red-shirts. Apparently, despite their earlier proclamations to the contrary, the reds plan to confront the anti-government demonstrators and then blame the "unseen hand" if it all goes pear-shaped.

By asserting that someone managed to "buy" 4000 red-shirts, they seem to imply that the red movement is basically a mob for hire.

It will be silly to think that spending 6 billion as claim for a one two days event and without reaching the final target objective, would you?

So, 50,000 people have made a spontaneous decision to join a rally hundreds of kilometres away in Bangkok with no promises of daily payments, transport, food etc. Well done!
