Police expect 70,000 plus at Pitak Siam rally

Police expect about 76,000 protesters at the weekend rally to demand the resignation of the government organised by the Pitak Siam group, and authorities are worried that agitators could stir up violence during the protest.

The projection by the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) is close to the earlier estimate by the pro-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD).

UDD leader Jatuporn Prompan earlier predicted a turnout of 30,000 people on Saturday and 40,000 more on Sunday.

Government authorities worried that agitators could stir up violence during the protest. Theyshould know by this time who are the agitators and arrest them, that is the only way to prevent violence. If they try they can find the agitators.

70k would be significantly more than UDD can usually produce and along with the fact that PTP was only voted in with 32% of all eligible voters, would go far in shattering the "democratic" mandate the Shinawatra cult claims to hold.

This is just normal elections - Thai style.

We had them in 2006 when Thaksin was ousted.
Then, again, in 2008 when Yellow Shirts took over Suvarnabhumi and Abhisit was appointed PM.
Once again, in 2010, when the Red Shirts protested for "democracy".
So, it is now 2012, and the 2-year interval seems to remain in effect.

The government sent the polices to deter people from joining the rally in Bangkok, blocking the roads leading to Bangkok and threatening people, etc. You can’t break our spirit. The government shamelessly is doing everything against democracy. The more you do us injustice, the more we will show up at the rally. This puppet government has lost the sense of decency just because Thaksin said “I won’t give in".

"“It is the government’s duty to preserve law and order, protect the lives and property of everyone -- including those who are protesting and those who are not involved. But most importantly, the government must protect the democratic system under the constitutional monarchy,” said Ms Yingluck.

How is it democratic that the country is run by an un-elected, fugitive from justice, sitting in Dubai? What part of "democratic system under the constitutional Monarchy" is that? And what part of "preserving law and order" is that?

"Any plan by the protesters to seize government offices, including the parliament and Government House, would be a violation of the law and protest leaders must bear the responsibility for this,'' he warned. Does this also include Burning buildings if so then the red shirt leaders should be held accountable for what their rioters did.

I am amazed there have been no polls provided on this issue. Most stories of this importance warrant and receive near daily polls for in favor of or opposed to the rally. What happened to the pollsters. Demonstrations are a part of democracy, coups and forcefull takeovers are not. The people voted the government in and the people should vote them out.

I support Yingluck here, law and order must prevail. I will be very disappointed in Pitak Siam resort to any of the following:

    1. burning down shopping malls and destroying other local businesses
    2. bring the city to a standstill by busing in tens of thousands of paid mobs, time after time
    3. intimidating local residents and erecting sharpened bamboo barracades
    4. firing M79 rocket launchers into the Silom tourist area injuring tourists

That would not be very democratic would it?!

One has to wonder if the motivation of the opposition is the corruption of others or "missing out on "corruption opportunities"
