Rally fizzles out amid safety fears

Boonlert says authorities inciting violence

Pitak Siam leader Boonlert Kaewprasit ended his anti-government rally and his own brief political career on a drizzly Saturday afternoon after a day of high drama and scattered violence.

A Pitak Siam protester holds up a tear-gas canister that police had fired near the Makkawan Bridge on Saturday morning.

Addressing an estimated 20,000 supporters from the Royal Plaza stage, he asked them to disperse peacefully.

@ricefield. '... The protesters tried to run the police line with a large truck and the police retaliated with tear gas'.

Nonsense ! If you watched live updates instead of listening to red radio propaganda you would know the truth.

A massive difference to when the Red Shirts came and built a fotress and militia in the center of Bangkok and faced no resistance until after a few months.

#28, easy to be courageous when you have the (so-called) elites as support or sponsor in your fight against the majority of the Thai people and it Government.

Disc 31 - It's not working out as you wished. The protesters tried to run the police line with a large truck and the police retaliated with tear gas.

Anyone has any idea, when the video clip is going to be played on stage by the rally leader. I believe THAT video could be the starting point of wide demand for the government to step down. Actually it is not a military coup that the government fears it is THIS clip. Please update with any information that you might have.

Everyone has right to protest but seriously do you really think this guy Pitak is doing the country any good with his ranting and right at start of high tourist season. Any purpose or motive there?

Quick snippet here - Chalerm the guy controlling the government side of the operation has, openly admitted that he is a servant of Thaksin and that he has always been working for Thaksin's cause. At this very moment, the action that is taking place in tackling protestors could be dictated from across the border. The police chief has also openly admitted that he would never be in the post had it not been for Thaksin. The people who click dislike on this post, need to be die hard reds.

I hope that the Red Shirts keep a dignified distance from this anti-democracy mob. Those of you on here trotting out the tired old stuff about Mr T should accept that this democratically elected government is acting in accordance with it's duty of care for it's citizens. Those who make comparisons to 2010 , well, blame hapless Abhisit for that shambles. At least this democratically elected government are being pro-active and, if this tantrum from the middle classes of Bangkok goes off without violence then the democratically elected government of Yingluk can say that their job was warrented. Funny how B.Post always blocks posts from Reds.

I predict a black Christmas for Thai tourism next month.
