Rally fizzles out amid safety fears

Boonlert says authorities inciting violence

Pitak Siam leader Boonlert Kaewprasit ended his anti-government rally and his own brief political career on a drizzly Saturday afternoon after a day of high drama and scattered violence.

A Pitak Siam protester holds up a tear-gas canister that police had fired near the Makkawan Bridge on Saturday morning.

Addressing an estimated 20,000 supporters from the Royal Plaza stage, he asked them to disperse peacefully.

It is obvious now this entire event was staged in order to bring out the army to take over the country just like everytime before. This is the only way this group knows how to obtain governmental power. So much for democratic values.

Ricefield disc 93. I've looked all over Utube for the video. I cannot find it but I found lots and lots of vids reminding me of the destructive reds in 2010 . Thanks for reminding me.

The video clips of police attacking Thai monks with tear gas grenades are already available with foreign media. Good that the fugitive's new dictatorship is being exposed all over the world.

I am think it clear from beginning they want to make coup by make as much trouble as possible. From past, they take over and destroy Government House and Airport. so I think it important that government not allow them to do this again.

RE: D85 the reds were protesting government formed via a coup, and the yellow shirts are protesting a government formed visa a democratic election. The country is tired of the coups and the country is finally seeing who is behind them. 20 coups later people seem to have woke up and wondered how come they could not afford coffee but the other side has silver and gold coffee pots.

It is not only violent (see discussion 84), there are 990 000 protestors who are missing to hit the goal of organizer.

This rally turns to the biggest joke ever seen since long.

Disc 85 - You need to learn the facts. The protesters cut the barbed wire, they then drove a 6 wheel truck into the police line seriously injuring two police, then they threw gas canisters at the police - only then did the police retaliated.. The video is on youtube if you care to take a look. It's a clear provocation by the protesters.

The idea that protesters simply want Makkhawan Bridge open so they can peacefully walk past Government House as a short cut on their way to the rally site is laughable, but the suggestion from many here that the police should just let them is beyond even the normal levels of ridiculousness. Does anyone really think protesters in England would be allowed to walk along Downing Street as a shortcut to St. James's Park, or along Pennsylvania Avenue as a short cut from 17th Street to 15th Street? Does anyone really think the police in those countries would not use whatever force was necessary to stop them if they tried to violently break through?
