Rally fizzles out amid safety fears

Boonlert says authorities inciting violence

Pitak Siam leader Boonlert Kaewprasit ended his anti-government rally and his own brief political career on a drizzly Saturday afternoon after a day of high drama and scattered violence.

A Pitak Siam protester holds up a tear-gas canister that police had fired near the Makkawan Bridge on Saturday morning.

Addressing an estimated 20,000 supporters from the Royal Plaza stage, he asked them to disperse peacefully.

android (#198): Not just Blue Sky, but plenty of avenues in the Thai media generally - not least this paper and its English language rival (neither of which can be credibly described as pro-PT). "brilliant" may want to paint a picture of all dissent being stifled; unfortunately for him/her, it's plainly not borne out by the reality.

Discussion 189 brilliant : There are still many portals for the anti-government voices to be raised. Have you been watching the pr-dem BlueSky tv channel that is broadcasting freely in open air everyday?

Disc 195 - And I also said in the same post but you failed to acknowledge it, "It's time for everyone to realize that violence and confrontation is not the way for Thailand to move forward". Or maybe you just didn't understand the term "everyone".

    He said
"It's time for you to get out because you have shown no capability and righteousness," he said, referring to Premier Yingluck.

Marty #180, you are becoming unreal now, how can you compare even in the slightest way the armed Reds with the Pitak Siam sheep. The exercised their rights not even 8 hours compared to the two months armed occupation of Bangkok in 2010. You just showed how unbalanced your comments can be.

I know a lot of so called red's. They are business owners, and working people with university degrees and salaries between 100.000 an 300.000 Baht per month. But you will never see them in a demonstration.

khunbill - "Reds are the working class they dont have time to sit and read and make unfounded BIAS comments everyday"

LOL, thanks for making my day. Reds are the farmers that work about 3 months a year then rely on their women to do busy work the rest of the year for a few baht. Have you ever been in a red village? The other problem is the literacy rate among reds is very low. At least English.

    Brilliant

Reds are the working class they dont have time to sit and read and make unfounded BIAS comments everyday

apachepat - "# 156 and 178 maybe it's not the reds or UDD manipulating your comments"

LOL. There's perhaps half a dozen red fans on here. But 50 votes supporting reds? Get real.

Discussion 177 brilliant : I must agree with many commentators here that the thai police had done a brilliant and competent job this time in cracking down the violent anti-government protestors.
