Rally fizzles out amid safety fears

Boonlert says authorities inciting violence

Pitak Siam leader Boonlert Kaewprasit ended his anti-government rally and his own brief political career on a drizzly Saturday afternoon after a day of high drama and scattered violence.

A Pitak Siam protester holds up a tear-gas canister that police had fired near the Makkawan Bridge on Saturday morning.

Addressing an estimated 20,000 supporters from the Royal Plaza stage, he asked them to disperse peacefully.

For those singing the democracy song - Democracy is not about electing a government and then sitting quiet irrespective of what the government does. Demonstrations are acceptable and the pretty lady government should learn that quickly. Had she not been obsessed with her brother and saving him, the country would have got better attention, people would prosper and the Democracts, Yellows and Phitaks would be irrelavant and forgotten. Suddenly people realize that they are not the only human being to dislike the government.

This is what AV should have done at Racha Prasong, a few years ago, instead of waiting until it was too late for a peaceful ending.

Still waiting for Ahbisit to made a statement regarding undemocratic means to topple the government. If he's not saying anything, he is part of the conspiracy and devoid of any democratic value.

Makkawan Bridge is only 5 minute walk to the Royal Plaza, it was not even 9 am when the polices fired the tear gas. The polices refused to explain to Protesters who tried to join the rally. The protesters did not try to run the police down, they just tried to use a truck to push the barrier out of the way. Watching from live broadcast, it was obvious the polices tried to block people from joining the rally. Is this democracy?

Maybe it's time to the Thai people to organize a "Rally to Restore Sanity". After all, in US, the Tea party and it extremism has moved the American and it was the worst ally to win against B. Obama.

"where were they two years" ago? Ask AV he was the PM then I believe" He asked! The police stood by and did nothing.

"Three people, including one police officer, were taken to hospital because of the effects of the tear gas..." So the police used tear gas even though they are not equipped with protective masks themselves. Amazing Thailand.

Frankly I see this as mainly business control fight and using commoners who have no idea of the bigger picture at stake. How can it be of corruption if nothing is presented other than speculation. Even the main opposition cannot present something to the public for support. So sad and wasteful for such protest.

now that dissent has been eliminated..."democracy" can go on
