Censure debate is lacking drama

Democrats so quiet, it's almost a case of, 'Censure debate? What censure debate?

It has been perhaps the most low-key lead-up for a censure debate in Thai political history, with noticeably scant media attention of the event in parliament.

Abhisit: Has had little to say

Outspoken members of the opposition-core Democrat Party said the atmosphere was far from normal and the mainstream media have hardly reported anything about the censure debate, which runs from tomorrow until Tuesday.

I agree, the Dems and AV are not up to the task of providing the country with a strong opposition. Time for a new party and new leaders.

My feeling is that the rally and the government's actions in regard to it will grab about 80% of the headlines. 10% will be other national news and the censure debate will get maybe 10% if it's lucky and if the protests are rowdy or the red shirts take to the streets the masses will fixated on the TV but not on the debate. The Democrats may quickly become a meteor hurling to earth burning itself up in the process.

Politics in Thailand is never about democracy or the national good, it is always about power. This is why it so often degenerates into physical confrontations, mob versus mob, mob versus army.
There is a basic inequality in Thailand which PT pays lip service to and which the Democrats have never addressed, as long as this inequality exists Thailand will never know a stable democratic government.

Dissolving the house and calling a fresh election, as suggested by the writer is not a viable solution. We've been there. This is the govt of preference for the overwhelming largest group, and will remain so for a generation. The next Shinawatra govt will only be even more paranoid and arrogant. What we are asking for is a competent, honest govt that serves the country not the individual, and today a lot of people will let them know they are making some grave mistakes. They will put Yingluck on notice to pull her socks up.

"With media attention diverted, the censure debate, to be led by the main opposition Democrat Party"
A politicians worst nightmare is when your opponents get all the press, and it is good...Time to sling some mud, make up some accusations and sensationalize some short coming or trivial technical point.
Are there no cooking shows, elections voting booths that were turned the wrong way? didn't the PM have a private meeting with some black man recently? maybe they could use that..something...anything...is good enough.for an excuse.

I admire CLP for his humble beginnings and his ability to come to power without the backing of the establishment and army. He was a good sword forged under intense heat.

But alas, a good sword wielded by the wrong hands can be either ineffective (numerous corruption scandals) or dangerous (human rights violations) as evidenced by his double tenures as PM.

CLP should quit the Dem party to start a new one, or join the PTP. Then and only then can his talents and experience be used for the good of the people.
