Tavor rifles traced back to army stocks

Ten automatic assault rifles discovered in Kanchanaburi on Sunday are army weapons lost during political violence in April 2010, a military official said yesterday.

The serial numbers on the 10 Tavor rifles confirm they once belonged to the military, said Col Sirichan Ngathong, the army's deputy spokeswoman.

Villagers found the rifles in a sack about 500m from the Tha Maka district police station. The firearms were lost at Pin Klao bridge during an army operation to restore order during red-shirt protests, Col Sirichan said. Following the discovery on Sunday, Bang Yi Khan police and the Department of Special Investigation will intensify efforts to look for whoever took the rifles, Col Sirichan said.

Does kind of redirect blame off Siam Pitak and re-orient it towards the UDD, now doesn't it. Guess they will claim they were simply preparing to defend the country against the coupists and since they are the government they don't need to explain how they came by those weapons. So sad.

Surely the army knew thy were missing 10 TAR21 assault rifles. If not, what else is missing? Does anyone know where the airship is?

The rifles were " lost" ??? The truth being they were " stolen" or " taken" by a violent red mob.....

The concept of the military losing it's weapons for any reason is way beyond the grasp of most people. Now the incompetence of those issued the weapons is apparent, the cover-up of their loss is apparent. Maybe the military should look into who lost the rifles rather than worry about who found them.
