Bhumjaithai shuns renegade MP

The opposition Bhumjaithai Party (BJT) has announced that it will boycott Ratchaburi MP Chaworalut Chinthammamitr for voting against the party line in the recent censure debate.

Party secretary-general Supachai Jaisamut said on Thursday that Ms Chaworalut defied the party by giving a vote-of-confidence to three cabinet ministers targeted during the debate.

The BJT earlier passed a resolution that all of its MPs should support Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, abstain in the vote against Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung and Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat, and vote against Deputy Interior Minister Chatt Kuldilok.

"Everyone may have their own opinions but in the end, the party must come first," Mr Supachai stated.

The renegade MP will not be expelled but rather will be barred from participating in the party's future activities, possibly including running under a BJT ticket.

Mr Supachai added that Ms Chaworalut received full support from BJT during the last general election, therefore her excuse of a personal attachment to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was unacceptable, especially when it affected party discipline.
