Abhisit gears up to battle murder rap

Former PM says charges are politically motivated

Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva says he would be ready to accept the death sentence if it was handed down to him as a result of the investigation into his government's crackdown on red-shirt protesters in 2010.

He was speaking after he and Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban were charged on Thursday by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) with authorising the killing of anti-government protesters during the April-May 2010 political violence in Bangkok.

Mr Suthep was deputy prime minister under the Abhisit government and headed the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES), which was set up to handle the protests.

Disc 57 - "Who ever floated the idea of a "death sentence"?" That would be the Democrat party by having the RED leaders charged with Terrorisn which also carries the death penalty.

Disc 55 - "I have had derogatory personal messages because of my negative feelings towards Abhisit" Don't feel bad there are a few of us here that get them every day, wear it like a badge.

I am no legal eagle but obervation seem that on this particular case where the taxi driver was killed, was there a need for the solider to fire on the taxi driver? And if live bullets was the best option of defense that now resulted in the taxi driver death? That they were clear that the taxi driver was in a position that threaten the solider then? There is no support for either the Demo, PT, yellow shirt or the red shirt but somehow the death of this taxi driver must be establish for his family to move forward.

snap - "As i recall when the yellow shirts invaded the airport not one life was lost."
Exactly! They didn't go with weapons of war, they didn't go with MIB, they went peacefully and they didn't "shut the airport" down. The government did that for sympathy.

Ian - "Back to the blame game again, no Thai ever seems willing to accept responsibility for their actions. "

Can you read? The entire article is about a Thai that is accepting responsibility even though this is a witch hunt.

What is AV saying now? On Oct 7, 2008, he said ---
"For all that has happened, the PM cannot deny his responsibility, either by negligence or intention. What is even worse than laying the
blame on the authorities is vilifying the people. I have never thought that we would have a state which has the people killed and seriously injured, and then accuses the people of the crimes. This is unacceptable. I have heard those in the government always asking
people whether they are Thai or not. Considering what you are doing now, it is not the question of being Thai or not, but whether you are human at all."

I really feel sorry for the reds, the seniors in the P.T who know the law are already aware that this case will fall flat in court and both Abhisit and Suthep will be cleared of all charges. The P.T is playing this game to keep the hardcore reds happy. Sending an armed military to tackle the protestors is not an issue as the government claimed to find armed protestors. BUT if the military shot people recklessly, each of those is a criminal offence for the officers involved. UNLESS, there are clear written commands by Abhisit and Suthep giving orders to kill protestors without reason, Suthep and Abhisit cannot be convicted by law in this case.

@bikeme. I hope it backfires big time and Thaksin's key role as the instigator is exposed for all the world to see.

He is such a greasy self serving coward : his last message to the mob before they set off to lay siege to BKK was 'I will be with you when the first shot is fired'

Then when the situation turned really ugly he was in Paris shopping at LV proclaiming it had nothing to do with him. Yuk !
