Abhisit gears up to battle murder rap

Former PM says charges are politically motivated

Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva says he would be ready to accept the death sentence if it was handed down to him as a result of the investigation into his government's crackdown on red-shirt protesters in 2010.

He was speaking after he and Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban were charged on Thursday by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) with authorising the killing of anti-government protesters during the April-May 2010 political violence in Bangkok.

Mr Suthep was deputy prime minister under the Abhisit government and headed the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES), which was set up to handle the protests.

maimeesi, Disc 8. Thaksin is not hiding, he is very open and just being evasive for his own good. I would think if there was a public poll, Thaksin would out weight Abhisit many times. In fact I believe Abhisits popularity is rock bottom. Furthermore Thaksin has never been accused of murder.

A immediate pardon for Abhisit and Suthep would save the Country from this embarrassing and divisive show trial and send a powerful message. The PTP is getting more arrogant and their one man agenda more obvious, how far with this be allowed to go?

"For all that has happened, the PM cannot deny his responsibility, either by negligence or intention. What is even worse than laying the
blame on the authorities is vilifying the people. I have never thought that we would have a state which has the people killed and seriously injured, and then accuses the people of the crimes. This is unacceptable. I have heard those in the government always asking
people whether they are Thai or not. Considering what you are doing now, it is not the question of being Thai or not, but whether you are human at all." - Abhisit, Oct 7, 2008

"The Democrat leader and his former deputy are ready to accept the death penalty" and really more when no have one risk of that, no? It's not a bad TV drama It's a question of Gvt responsibility and search of truth. Who do what and why. The Thai people have to know. And it's valable for the both camps. Let the Justice talk.
