Abhisit urges 'No' vote on charter change

Opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has urged voters to reject changes to the charter during the government's anticipated referendum on a constitutional amendment bill.

Opposition and Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva post this explanation on his Facebook page of why voters should mark "no" on the referendum.

In an open letter posted on his Facebook page Sunday, the Democrat leader called on the public to block what he called an attempt by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to "whitewash" all cases involving her brother, Thaksin Shinawatra, by writing a new constitution.

D1: I'm afraid you're right. And now that the Dems tell the people to 'just say no', PT will phrase the referendum text in such a twisted manner that 'no' will mean one agrees with the change.

Imagine for a moment the PT would be able to whitewash Thaksin and he would return like a hero without any criminal record and without any trial waiting for him. And then? Will he be able to walk around Bangkok freely? Will he be able to go into any of his beloved shopping malls? Would it be possible for him to have a quiet lunch or dinner in any public restaurant? I think No, no, and no. He would permanently hear abuse from all sides and I can’t imagine that he will ever feel safe in Thailand again. Maybe he should stay in a place far away and spare himself and all of us further nightmares.

So let's see if Thais believe in people and laws or money and power. I'm not too optimistic that they'll make the right choice though. It seems that money is God to most Thais.
