'Lackey' PM risks exile

Thaksin hold will break Yingluck, says Suthep

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will be driven out of the country unless she is able to shake off her brother Thaksin's influence, Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban said Sunday.

Suthep: ‘Truth’ push working

The former Democrat secretary-general said Ms Yingluck would end up sharing her brother's fate if she carried on acting as his lackey.

D26 and D37. It should be agreed that amnesty is not an answer to the present situation. And in fact, unfortunately I must agree with Suthep that if Yingluck does progress with the referendum, she might not get the required votes, which could possibly lead to her downfall.
All I see here is a poor political ploy by Suthep, speaking for the Democrats who are frightened because they are being exposed. Worse than that they are more frightened of the power of thought of the PTP and Thaksin. A formidable force that they do not have the ability to cope with.

Do you think how many electors in this country (if any) didn't know that YS is a nominee for TS and voting for YS means voting for TS? Isn't YS as a PM in thrall to TS what to be expected from the very first day she was elected?

But why should we tolerate the fact that the convicted like TS is still at large and active in politics? That's the real issue. And that's by no means untenable when we take into account the fact that all the legal charges against him originated from the coup which is illegitimate and therefore the result (jail term, etc.) cannot be legitimnate either. The acceptance of TS is the first step in defiance of the coup.

    mr.meldrew 39,
"...Abhisit's administration has allowed the military to continue to operate with impunity. No member of the security forces has been criminally prosecuted for human rights abuses in the provinces of Pattani, Narathiwat, and Yala, even in high profile cases such as the Krue Se mosque killings, the Tak Bai crackdown...unwilling to bring to justice officials allegedly responsible for more than 2,500 unresolved extrajudicial killings and serious abuses committed during Thaksin's 2003 'war on drugs'...closed down more than 18,000 websites...blatantly breached Thailand's obligations under international law..." - HRW, 2010

    gleentea #16,
"While Prime Minister Abhisit sometimes said the right things about human rights in 2009, his actions didn't match his words. The government continually undermined respect for human rights and due process of law in Thailand...Democracy in Thailand suffers badly from draconian laws on lese majeste and cyber crimes. A climate of fear looms over civil discourse and in cyberspace as a result of increasing restrictions on freedom of expression under the Abhisit government." - HRW, 2010

Eric D 31: Was that a Hans Christian Anderson fairy story version of what's happening in Thailand now? Economy gonna be hurt by rice scam debts, rice exports ruined. Only in Burma to enrich TS clan and cronies, corruption and public debts on huge increase so no need to be mindful. Gained respect from peers? Which ones other than the gravy train crew? And TS hasn't done much harm? Are you joking? The country is split because of him.

If PT doesnt like being criticized then maybe it should take a long hard look at the fact that it is already in power .Bringing Thaksin back and rewriting the law to forgive his crimes will not help them .Trying to blackmail everyone else into joining their rewriting by bringing charges against the opposition wont work as no did anything wrong which is why they are more than willing to go to court while Thaksin hides abroad letting every one fight his battles for him .Let Thaksin live out his bad karma where he has chosen .He can man up and accept his charges when ever he feels brave enough .

So predictable it's becoming a farce. Whatever you think of the present government (or any government) they were legally elected by the majority of people. It doesn't take long for those that are anti-democratic to look for excuses to bring the government down.

I guess when Yingluck leave the country there may be another coup and it will be described as legal because of weak, unproven allegations. If Taksin was so bad why did they wait until he was out of the country to oust him? Simply because they had no legal grounds to charge him. Just wait until the Prime Minister leaves then it's easier. Democracy? More like cowardly dictators.

I think Thailand belongs to the Thai people. Thailand is a democratic and not a dictatorial country. Still some person behaves like a dictator.

People still trust Thaksin to run the economy. His plan is to gamble on rice and other populist policies. Like in a casino, where people are enticed with free drinks, everybody is getting benefits first, then they might even win the first round - if world prices go up and Thailand can sell its rice at a profit. Then they would inject even more funds in populism, but, as with a casino, the end result is inevitable - the wealth will be lost.

Suthep is essentially right but his time frame for disillusionment is overly optimistic.
