'Lackey' PM risks exile

Thaksin hold will break Yingluck, says Suthep

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will be driven out of the country unless she is able to shake off her brother Thaksin's influence, Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban said Sunday.

Suthep: ‘Truth’ push working

The former Democrat secretary-general said Ms Yingluck would end up sharing her brother's fate if she carried on acting as his lackey.

Duke: Re Thaksin and HWR : "The data here are gathered based on 3 main allegations against Thaksin during his time as Thai prime minister.

Thaksin presided over extrajudicial killings during the notorious “war on drugs”. HRW says 2,500 people were killed during one three-month period at the start of 2003.
Thaksin told the Thai military to employ any means to suppress an insurgency in the south of Thailand.
    Thaksin Suppressed the Thai media."

I understand some people are nostalgic of dictatorship as it preserves their interests. But in democracy, only the people vote decides, not the nostalgic. "PM risks exile" is just a new threat against the democracy, a call to a new putsch as we know that only the people ousted by a coup is forced to exile. In a democracy, why a person losing elections (if it happens) would have to leave his/her country?

Disc 26 - You bring up a good point. That is exactly what Argentina has done. They have removed all amnesty clauses from their past and present legislation and have tried those from it's dark past for their actions. Thailand desperately needs to do this and end the impunity. If it has to start with Suthep well I personally can't think of a better candidate.

Disc 21. Your statement referring to suspected drug dealers, "just killed on Taksins orders". Thaksin has never been charged with any murder, nor for giving any orders to murder. Your statement is pure here-say and you have absolutely no proof. This could be interpreted as libel.
I can just about guarantee that you wouldn't say this to his face.

What is Suthep talking about? Political parties associated with Thaksin have won every election held during the last decade. Doesn't this tell this guy something? People actually like Thaksin. It is the connection to Thaksin that made Phua Thai win the election in the first place. Loose public's confidence? What planet is this joker on?

D23 Eric - She has improved Thailand competitiveness in rice growing so much we fell to 3rd place. She improved investor confidence post flood so much that companies built their own flood walls to avoid future floods. Aside from lots of face time, she really hasn't done much on her own.

Why is Taksin association with PT and Yingluck become such a revelation now. As if we don't know that. She has done well for the economy, established better relationship with our neighbors, work tirelessly to increase our export, rebuild and win back confidence of our major investors post flood, improve the competiveness of the country and done well to gain respect of her peers. Nothing is perfect and her government must be mindful of public debts, corruption and education. As for Taksin, except for some mistime comment, he hasn't done much harm and moreover he is Yingluck brother and he chose her and so carry that concerns.

It appears both are as bad as each other. However to rewrite the constitution to benefit the MPs in particular one certain Mr T is tenter-mount to a criminal act.May be they should teach some Roman history in schools and learn what destroyed that empire. Then Thailand would have a chance to have a fresh start a few years down the road.

If you can charge Abhiset with murder, they should already start with Gen Suchinda for the murders of innocent protesters in 92, or what about the murders of the over 2,000 suspected drug dealers whom were never charged, just killed on Taksins orders? Seems to me they are throwing rocks in glass houses!

Base in constitution article 309 if I recall correctly, what the Democrat's leadership did to Thaksin was legal though the country got affected badly economically that is why I think Abhisit doesn't want this article change to protect them from deeper trouble. When the red shirt's tried their purely people's power (without the support of the military and influential politicians), they failed and many died and got hurt for the government used force and gun. In which I believe is a constitutionally aligned rally. In desperation they vandalized and destroyed some properties.
