Yingluck tops poll as 'most constructive politician'

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has been named in an opinion survey as the Thai politician having given the most constructive performance during the past year.

Up to 52.1 per cent of respondents chose Ms Yingluck for the honour in the nationwide survey of 1,275 people aged 18 and older, conducted by Bangkok University's Research Institute between Dec 15 and 20.

She was followed by opposition and Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva (16.3 per cent), Rak Thailand Party leader Chuvit Kamolvisit (15.3 per cent) and Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung (7.1 per cent).

I notice that the poll didn't include Taksin, I'm sure his popularity would rival that of his sister.

@jepl #15: Only 8.9% of the polled people think the armed forces are the most constructive organization. I am more concerned that 7.7% still think the police are somehow constructive.

"Ms Yingluck's elder brother, deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, scored 2.6 per cent in the same survey"
Why would Mr.T be in this survey? It was about politicians not fugitives; was it not?

the Armed Forces as the best organisation in Thailand? wow, this scares me!

ringmaster - how much in government handouts do you get in the US? I hope it's a lot because obviously you like political parties that give lots of free goodies out.

ggh - quit drinking the kool-aid man. It's pathetic. If you think Yingluck is working for the good of the country then you must think Thailand only exists north of Bangkok. You forget Bangkok itself and the South. Let's do a poll in the three southern provinces and see what the results are.

I like to see a Thai poll for such questions like “What is the result of 1,000 - 30” with the choices:
    a) 970
    b) 1,030
    c) 700
I better don’t predict the winner in this multiple choice test. And I would like to see the results separated by political party affiliation…

The people who think the rice-pledging policy is good are people who are getting some money out of it, and aren't aware (or don't care) that the money comes from multi-billion baht taxes. It's like eating your fried hand to get enough calories. It tastes good, until the anesthetic wears off.

In this nationwide poll: "Most constructive", Yingluck 52%, Abhist 16% (big difference here). A poll by Assumption last month, North to South of Thailand, said 69% of the people still have "confidence" in Yingluck. I would think that these polls could be deemed as a forward look at the outcome of the referendum also. In any case it certainly does indicate that the people of Thailand are behind Yingluck.

We are used to Yingluck scoring well in polls after polls. The big question is how bad Ahbisit is doing poll after poll and how well he respond to the challenge. This is another poor poll result with a wide margin behind Yingluck and just 1% above Chuvit. This is worrying for Thai democracy when you are the leader of the biggest opposition party. If the Demo Party don't take heed of the poll and made the changes to its leadership and policies, they can kiss the next election goodbye.
