34 years jail for blinded PAD supporter

The Appeals Court on Thursday handed down a sentence of 34 years imprisonment on a People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) supporter who was previously given a suspended jail term by the Criminal Court.

Preecha Treecharoon, 53, was charged with attempted murder, illegal assembly and causing unrest in connection with the yellow-shirt PAD rally in front of parliament on Oct 7, 2008.

100 % agree with bangkokbob, 'Then the government changes and his sentence is increased to 34 years. Now that's corruption and injustice. Some dark times are coming for Thailand'.

Unbelievable !! Of course PAD people who broke the law deserve to face trial and approriate sentencing but...head shaking astonishment....

D12 , are you on Amsterdam's staff. The man was blinded by police using illegal Chinese made tear gas. No one died yet he got a death sentence. he will surely die in prison before his release aged 87.

Were you here, did you see what police did to male & female protestors. I doubt you have a clue what went on.

Disc 9. You state 'corruption and injustice'. For purposely driving a car into 5 people, how on earth can that be justifiable and where does the corruption come into it. This was the appeals court and he has been justly sentenced.

If the PAD receive heavy sentences while the Red Shirts are given a slap on their wrists, such as suspended sentences or whitewashing, which is what I think will happen, then we can expect very determined street opposition to the government because people will think that Thaksin has interfered with the justice system. Win-Lose thinking fueled by a desire for revenge is the name of the game, I'd say.

Has he recieved compensation like the red shirts? Or should we expect the usual PTP/UDD double standards to prevail in cases related to their opponents?

I also wonder how many death and life-sentences will be handed down to those red shirts who actually killed and crippled soldiers, police and civilians,if breaking a police officers leg amounts to 34 years in the slammer? Or will these cases concerning the current government's own violent mob be dismissed by the Court because the "independent" DSI coincidently fails to provide enough evidence?

A broken leg and illegal assembly gets you 34 years in prison...

Well, I'm looking forward to some monumental sentences for the Red Shirts.
Looting, arson, murder, possession of firearms, possession of explosives, incitement to all of the above AND illegal assembly. They'll need to clone the Red Shirts for them to complete their sentences... (unless they aren't sentenced to prison of course)

Here-in is the problem. It took this long just to get an indictment of two cases only when others of different color go directly to jail for crimes of the same nature. Equal justice is the key to reconcilation.

Its good to see the non violent Pad that i hear in this paper almost daily getting time in the monkey house.Lets see all thier pad leaders banged away too and the keys thrown away.Happy new year.

#1, i'm ok with you but 34 years seems a bit beyond measure. He is also a political protester, no has premeditated his act and nobody died. Sure he deserves an heavy sanction. 3 years is. 34 years is surrealist.

Chai Yo! Finally the justice system in this country has shown it's sincerity to do it's real job of upholding the law and justice for all, regardless of colour. Let's hope they continue in this direction without political influence or meddling by any colour of shirt wearers.
