Pongsapat seeks replacement

Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen will soon call a meeting to select his temporary replacement as secretary-general of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) as he plans to contest the Bangkok governor election, a source said.

The meeting of ONCB executives will decide his temporary successor to take charge at the agency while Pol Gen Pongsapat stands for governor under the Pheu Thai Party banner.

Narong Ratanakul, an ONCB advisor, or Permpong Chaovalit, a deputy chief, are tipped to oversee the agency for Pol Gen Pongsapat, the source added.

The ONCB senior officials will probably consult the Civil Servants Commission on this issue as Mr Narong and Mr Permpong both hold a C-10 rank, according to the source.

The date for the meeting has not been set.

Pheu Thai is expected to announce Pol Gen Pongsapat as its candidate for the new Bangkok governor in a meeting on Jan 10.

Pol Gen Pongsapat can return to his police career if he loses the election.
