Pongsapat officially Pheu Thai's choice

The Pheu Thai Party's executive committee on Sunday unanimously picked Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen as the party's candidate for the Bangkok governor election, spokesman Prompong Nopparit said.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra did not attend the meeting as she is not an executive committee member.

Mr Prompong said the meeting agreed to appoint party secretary-general Phumtham Vechayachai as director of the party's election centre.

Re discussion 21: He may not be the best or the perfect candidate but it is better than having a PT police running for governor. Wait now I think of it much further in depth he may actually be a proxy governor.

Disc 8 You are right second choice for PTP but the Democrat wasn't even that and only got the nod when he threatened to run as an independent. That would have allowed anyone the PTP ran to be elected.

Disc 6 - Well as a majority of past Governors have been charged with corruption and irregularities including the incumbent, shouldn't that make him a perfect candidate in your eyes.

Dis#15 upina, you are right. Come to think of Bangkok as the city why not have a mayor like any other cities? Unless it is considered as one of provinces. I think it could be that there is no equal word in english. Thai word for the head of provinces is called "Kha Leung" Thais translated it to "governor". but the head of Bkk metropolitan called "Nayok tes sa montree" it isn't called Kha leung. At this point "Nayoktesamontri" is Governor. If you aren't Thai you will be very confuse with all these titles, ranks etc. It's made to confuse themselves to the point they don't know their role when crisis arose they overstep each others and jobs undone.

A longstanding policeman that helps lead an organization that is inept, corrupt and clueless. He'll fit in with the other PTP cadre perfectly.

As deputy police chief and secretary-general of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and because of his "goog job", Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen should be promoted and help police of Bangkok to crackdown casino, prostitution, bike racing, driver offenders....
He has not qualification for Bangkok governor which require goog knowledge in education, culture, economy, society, engeenering....
PTP really lack idea in chosing a policeman to manage Bangkok..

The fact that the Pheu Thai had to bring in an outsider, rather than select a current member of their party, speaks volumes about the quality of their membership.

Why does Bangkok have a governor? Most cities have a mayor.

Why isn't the Bangkok governor appointed like the rest of the provinces in Thailand?

D10,drsmith : I usually agree with your comments, but I fail to see how prostitution is a "major problem".
If women voluntarily offer sexual services and men are willing to pay the price for it,what is the problem then, other than it's "illegal"?

Women willing to sell these services greatly reduce the risks of our daugthers/wives getting raped and for that,I salute them. I think these hard-working women should be praised for their great contributions to society and helped when needed, rather than be frowned upon.
