Thaksin should take 'economic role'

A majority of people think former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's role in Thai society should be on solving economic problems than on resolving political conflict, according to the results of an Abac poll revealed on Sunday.

The poll was conducted between Jan 7-12 on 2,071 people in Bangkok, Phetchaburi, Saraburi, Nakhon Pathom, Chon Buri, Kamphaeng Phet, Phetchabun, Chiang Mai, Maha Sarakham, Roi-et, Nakhon Ratchasima, Loei, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Narathiwat, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla.

Asked whether conflict in society would end if Thaksin was excluded from being involved in solving problems, 52.7% said "no" and 47.3% said "yes".

bangmodken #12 and bonzo #27 - You did not read my posting with understanding and quick to point a finger. I mentioned 'He should not be in politic. Politic killed another potentially big tax contributor to Thailand.' I hope you understand what is 'POTENTIALLY'. Politic is also a game of smear campaigns and 'digging of dirt'. Thaksin was already a billionaire before his current enemies invited him to join politic. He should not, because he could have used his money - like many others, to control politicians.

One Elite Card per farmer! That would be a good one.

D6 - when was Thaksin a big tax contributor to Thailand? I must have missed that memo.

Look at China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Phillipines. Are / Were their leaders better than Thaksin? Are they cleaner? Judge for youself? I say NO! In many ways, it is not how not corrupt you are that makes a successful and wealthy country. It is your shrewdness and quick responses that lead to results in economic matters. Things are done differently in Asia, you either hate it or love it. Pure democracy does not lead to fair and equal distribution of wealth nor law and order for everyone as evidenced from the state of thing in the west atm. We need a clever person, we need a new path and there is a price for everything.

Thaksin would preside over a massive credit bubble which would manifest itself as skyrocketing real estate prices, consumer spending and equity values. And within 2 years everyone will pat themselves on the back and say, "See? Look how smart we were to trust Thaksin,". Which is to say, they will as smug as the Greeks, Spanish and Irish were about their decision to join the Euro - before the collapse, that is. Credit bubbles are enormously popular things. They *always* are. When they end, everyone gets plunged into poverty and the wealthy slip away with the winnings.

Disc21 Canuck - " Thaksin doesn't pay them one red cent as you claim. "
Despite all the tons of evidence to the contrary? Look up 'Thaksin 500 baht mistake' on Youtube.... Then tell me he doesn't buy support.

Red Shirts have cupboard love for Thaksin... I can't wait to see the backlash when the rice industry collapses. I'll drive around in Isaan in my biggest truck with posters saying 'Som nam naa' and 'Told you so'.

If there is a lesson to be learned by all Thai people is that it will take nothing short of a collective will and hard work of the majority of Thai people to change their country in a positive direction. As no one person, including Thaksin, can do it for them. The latest example is the people of South Korea. And always remember that "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Do we all still remember who promised this, "I am already full, and this time I want to do it for the country?" And then what happened?

Eat your heart out. You are not the majority. You just can't believe this country loves Thaksin. Thaksin doesn't pay them one red cent as you claim. The majority of Thailand is sick of the self serving elite.
