Ex-governor scoffs at poll

Sukhumbhand predicts last-minute vote surge

MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra, the Democrat Party's candidate for Bangkok governor, has shrugged off an Abac poll projecting him to finish behind the Pheu Thai Party's Pongsapat Pongcharoen.

He told the Bangkok Post in an exclusive interview Thursday that the race is still in its early stages and the vote could eventually swing in his favour.

He said he is looking to take 1 million votes during the March 3 election.

Reminds me of the song: I am the Big Pretender...pretending that...(fill in as you like)..

I think MR Sukhumbhand would stand a better chance to get elected if he resigned from the DEM and stand as an independent candidate. PTP may not field its 'party sponsored' candidate if that was the situation. He has some respect from the Red/UDD because he, and veteran did try to defuse the political stalemate/confict. The DEM did not really want to field him and he should know that he is their second choice. He is field for the continuity of the things that were already in the secret 'closet' and to protect the self-interest of some.

I recall the anti-UDD/Red Shirt Media crowing about the 2010 demonstrations against a coup-rooted, minority Government, being a provincial invasion of Bangkok Arrogantly suggesting that Bangkoks sophisticated people were perplexed onlookers. Their biases prevented them from acknowledging that these demonstrations swelled to almost twice their size during the evenings when Bangkokians arrived. Bangkokians contributed heavily. The Governor scoffing at Polls does so at his own peril and is "whistling past the graveyard"

The Dem would have stand a better chance if they'd let the incumbent Deputy Governor, the engineer, run in this election. By fielding the same person with no outstanding record is like trying to make two wrongs right.

Wow, the picture 'caption' says - "....the Bangkok governor will always have confrontations with the government, Pheu Thai or Democrat." Is this correct? Do we want a governor who always has confrontations with the government'? Confrontation will never work, but cooperation, negotiation and willingness to see each other's situation will.

subcoman D2 You're quite right. But even a "slap in the face" won't wake up some people in this forum to reality. They'll continue the same old vote buying charge and deny the fact that the Dems have failed to demonstrate why they should be in office. Of course, the Dems are in denial too.

What Mr Sukhumbhand is saying as reported here is asking for sympathy. He is still talking about 'two governments.' A 'seamless' governor' is one who is willing to cooperate and work effectively with other state agencies and the central government. It is not relying too much on the central government. Only through dialogue and cooperation, will the central government knows and understands the specific needs of locals.

DJ Suharit also mentioned footpath management in his one-dozen policy on his facebook.
