Democrats roll out campaign plans

The Democrat Party has rolled out a three-point campaign strategy which it believes will help its candidate for Bangkok governor to win the March 3 poll after an Abac poll on Friday put Pheu Thai Party candidate Pongsapat Pongcharoen in the lead.

Democrat campaign manager Ong-Art Klampaiboon on Sunday said the strategy was designed to draw more support from undecided voters for MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra after the results of the Abac opinion poll put Pol Gen Pongsapat ahead of the pack on all measures gauging the popularity of candidates.

Mr Ong-Art said the party, from today, would focus at three points for MR Sukhumbhand’s campaign which included:

The Democrats strategy with Sukhumbhand can be summed up by the old adage about putting lipstick on a pig.

It is hard to believe PT may win this election

Seems like Pongsapat likes to promise the big projects with huge investments....wonder why and who will be the main beneficiary....Knowing the actual PT/UDD interests we should all be extremely vigilant!!

    1. Introduce only reality-based and non-exaggerated policies which can be truly materialised after MR Sukhumbhand is re-elected.

    2. Showing the public that MR Sukhumbhand is not a daydreamer, but a hard working, competent man who likes to create work rather than an image. A reachable and reliable governor.

    3. Showing MR Sukhumbhand as a serious and sincere man who is ready to continue his work to develop Bangkok.

None of these say anything at all - just a bunch of political rhetoric.

I think describing realistic and achievable policies is a mistake.

As has been demonstrated, Thai people are attracted to shiny baubles and free stuff regardless of the long term damage it does to the country. They would be better advised to announce some ill-conceived expensive mega-project that won't be completed on time, will be sub-standard but will offer a million opportunities for graft (I'd imagine a 700 million baht tram scheme would fall into that category)

What exactly did K. Sukhumband achieve during his last term? Can anybody mention one positive change for Bangkokians?

The tram idea is basically very good. It costs much less than the sky train and can be built quicker. Of course it takes space from streets, means cars, but that is one of the points nobody wants to understand. You have to make a choice, public transport or car lanes. You can't accomodate both. So yes, to trams, but please, not only around Rattanakosin island.

Dislike Pongsapat, but love trams, so you get my vote!
