Parties rally their MP troops

ANALYSIS: Pheu Thai says it lags by 170,000 votes in race for governor

The opposition Democrat Party expects a close contest in the March 3 election for Bangkok governor and has mobilised MPs to help its candidate.

Although 25 candidates have registered to compete for the top seat at City Hall, the contest is widely seen as a two-horse race between former governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra of the Democrat Party and Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen of the Pheu Thai Party.

Pheu Thai views itself as an underdog and is calling up all available resources against the Democrats.

    d24 - Definitely indoctrination, probably using the same trumped up logic as you are trying to use on the readers in this peanut gallery.

    "Wow, this BKK. election is being parsed as if it was a national election." Probably because there are only two elected governors in the entire country.

    Looking at the DP strongholds and respective district population density, Sukhamband should win hands down. So what's worrying the DP? Simply that Sukhamband has not performed and there likely to be a big swing in what DP perceived as sure win areas. Bangkokians are pragmatic and only wants what are good for them and the Pongsapat has been very impressive in his campaigns. With more information and facts relating to the riot unfolding and healing time, most Bangkokians will likely to vote without that reminder.

    @Bikeme,
    You state that the Dems are seen by many as the party of the establishment and army because of the "propaganda that the UDD/PTP have used to indoctrinate half of Thailand's population".
    It is just the continuation of my comment about how the Dems are not able to re-evaluate themselves but always giving to other responsibilities about their constant fail since 20 years...
    Are you really sure that, to give one example among others, fact as doubled the budget of army by Abihisit while Thaksin created the 30 Bahts health care for all has nothing to do with the fact that the Dems are seen are the party of establishment and army ?

    "What happen to the news that PT candidate stole a radio while studying in the US?" According to the newspapers, he said he didn't do it. They took his word for it, since he is a policeman.

    D16 Subcoman - You asked "why, from a leading party at the top of popularity, they are now considered by many as the party, not of the people but of the establishment and army ?" ... Because that is the propaganda that the UDD/PTP have used to indoctrinate half of Thailand's population.

    @jacksprat,

    Big article in the New York Times on how Thaksin runs Thailand from Dubai with the help of Skype and his cell phone: http://2bangkok.com/nyt-article-on-how-thaksin-rules-the-country-with-skype-and-instant-messenger.html

    @DonAleman #2, I am not so sure if what you suggest would be a sure way to win. I agree that educated people and people who care would agree with your list. But unfortunately there are lots of intellectually challenged out there who think that corruption is perfectly ok and who don’t see any problem with a criminal fugitive running the country. Is there any organization in Thailand which is actively fighting corruption on every level and independent of political affiliation? I don’t think so and there is a reason why that is in the way it is.

    Thanks BP for this blue and red map. In the moment I live in the blue center which helps me feeling better. As a farang I can’t vote (fair enough) but I can vote where I live. In case that I will ever move I will make sure to stay in the blue boundaries.

    What happen to the news that PT candidate stole a radio while studying in the US? Is it true or fail?
