The Constitution Court will rule on Friday whether Prime Minister's Office Minister Varathep Rattanakorn is qualified to hold a cabinet post, court secretary-general Chaowana Traimas said on Thursday.
Mr Chaowana said the court judges would meet at 9.30am to finalise their decision. They were petitioned for a ruling by 24 senators who questioned Mr Varathep's qualifications.
The senators argued that Mr Varathep might not be qualified for the cabinet post under Sections 182 (3) and 174 (5) of the constitution, because he was found guilty and sentenced to a two-year suspended prison term in connection with the launch of a two- and three-digit lottery while serving as deputy finance minister in the Thaksin Shinawatra government.
