Amlo asked to probe police projects

The Pheu Thai Party on Tuesday asked the Anti-Money Laundering Office (Amlo) to investigate financial transactions relating to payments for the contracts to build 396 police stations and 163 police apartment blocks nationwide for the Royal Thai Police Office.

According to the petition filed by Prompong Nopparit, the party spokesman, the first payment of 877 million baht had been paid by cheque to PCC Development and Construction Co (PCC), which was awarded the contract to build the police stations.

Another payment, also a cheque, was made to the same company, which was also contracted to build the police apartment blocks.

Amlo was asked to investigation the financial transactions of PCC after receiving the two first payments and find out who the money was transferred to and whether any politicians were involved.

Pol Capt Suwanee Sawaengpol, deputy secretary-general of Amlo, accepted the petition for consideration.

Former deputy prime minister Suthep Thaugsuban, who supervised the Royal Thai Police Office while serving in the Abhisit Vejjajiva government, said Tuesday he had not received a summons from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to testify about the police stations project.

He said he was not worried by this matter.
